Our Song

Haunting melodies caress the soul,
Riding eddies of spirit to enchant and capture.

Sharp notes to beckon, soft notes to cajole,
Hymns to hypnotise, harmonies to melt the melody.

Hidden rhythm within the beat,
Captures bodies and moves the feet.

Strident solos proclaim independence,
Supporting acts one for all.

Music in and music out,
The song is all around, embodied sound.

Shake, rattle, ring and roll,
Favorite songs the voice of soul.

Haiku?

Senseless falling causes
Melancholy.
Time when you are sad.

The Black Hand.

Woke early morning hand gone dark,
Pitch black soaked through.
Picked up phone to check messages and battery died,
Flipped on light and bulb shorted out,
Put on shirt and tore a hole,
Tied shoes only to break the laces,
Closed the door and broke a window,
Caught the bus but the engine broke,
Found a cab but the tire was flat,
Cursed the sky and the sun went out.

In and Out

Breath in, pain within,
Restless rattling of wracked lungs.
Breath out, pain out,
Released relaxation of soft flesh.
Breath in, thoughts in,
Never speaking out, always hiding true thoughts.
Breath out, thoughts out,
Calibrated and monitored, dirtying the truth.
Breath in, limbs in,
Staying home, sleeping life away.
Breath out, limbs out,
Running, jumping, participating.

In and out, Out and in. Breathing is such a simple, such and ordinary, necessary thing that we all
do, and yet it belies and reveals so much of a person it's startling. A sharp intake of breath, a
reluctant gasp, labored breathing, soft sighs. The breath of life is known as that for many
reasons and one, because with every breath we tell the tale of ourselves. So breath easy
friends, life rolls on.

Death In the Family

Curious lights flash through the door,
Strange beckonings leave you wanting more.
Drawn to the lights you step outside,
Into the night where danger may hide.

Striding boldly you search for the source,
Stepping lively you determine your course.
Every step brings you nearer,
While your surroundings grow ever stranger.

Dazzling lights flash in the darkness,
Showing garish flashes of horrid harshness.
Steps grow timid, but much faster,
To avoid unknown disaster.

The devil dances just out of sight,
Cackling at his fortune this ghastly night.
The darkness fades with the sunrise,
Revealing the morbid cast of Death and Demise.

Then time passes and small things change,
But the cries of sirens you never heard still cry,
Never silenced within your brain,
Ever crying out the day that you began to die.

The Devil's Playground

Breaking boredom feeds my mind,
Pushing out my creative drive.
These idle hands come to play,
Mocking and cajoling,
Caring and consoling.
Time tells the mortal cost,
Confusing ties as hands make knots,
Always avoiding the pit that rots.

White Walls

White walls are bland,
Generic coloring without style.
They have no dash or daring do,
People plaster them with posters and pictures.
White walls garner no comment,
Except when they have flaws.

Is that why nice guys finish last?

The Black Diary

In the dark,
With shadowed promises,
I remember the black diary.

The one I promised I’d never keep,
The one that was never to be written.

The diary holding all of your deepest secrets,
Your painful regrets and tortured memories.

Every one I took,
Word by word I wrote it down.

Don’t worry its hiding place is safe.
Because these words written down,
Were words seared into my soul.

Opportunity At Hand

What do you do in these moments?
When all avenues, shortcuts and side roads are shut off,
And all that is open is the path ahead.
Can this road be managed with enough dexterity that no glass houses are shattered to foundations,
That bridges hold firm and the troubled waters roiling beneath calm under the torpid sky?

There is but one opportunity that is wrought with indecision and hesitation.
Will the moment be grasped with both hands and brought to bear?
Within this crystalline gem drop of time all aspects are clear and unclear, murky and transparent.

A blind man's guess and a fool's jest are held in equal regard,
Opinions and thoughts are weight and measured,
Sifting out the pieces that are to be treasured.
Within that momentary gasp everything stops and it all starts before it all is torn to parts.
But each part, and piece has its own role to play within this complex system of travelling parades.

March in time and march in step,
down the road we'll see how far we get.

A Meeting of Minds

It is in my nature to be contrary,
People may say I just want to argue
But I'd say differing opinions are necessary
For a cohesive conversation to ensue.
I'm just here for the debate,
For a lively discussion.
I don't mean to berate,
I won't fear any repercussion.
For in a duel of words,
There may be victors and the vanquished,
There may not even be any resolution.
But at least we'll have distinguished,
Our own opinions and solutions,
To any random event, person, or problem,
With whom we may have issue.
