Ansa Essien Poem
NURSES
Tell me this question nurse
Describe how you ever see me
A wrinkly old fuss pot woman
At the grand old age of 93
You wash and you dress me
You feed each one of us
Its your job but i hear you moan
When one of us makes a fuss.
I'll tell you all about my life
Right where do you want me to start
Sit down now i'm ready to begin
It's all about me straight from the heart
Iwas born in them war days
My father he was killed there
My Mother worked as hard as she could
She fed us all and made us pray.
Married at a very young age
Yes at the age of twenty two
My mother was not very happy
I was pregnant what could i do
Seven children altogether
It was hard in them days
My kids had to go to work
To pay for their own ways
My husband sadly passed away
Seventy two when he died
I still hold our moments
Safely locked inside
Children lives of their own
Don't bother to see me no more
But not one minute passes
When i hope to see them at the door
That's all about me now
I'm feeling tired ready for bed
Please can you aid me nurse
To rest my weary head.

Ansa Essien Poem
LONELINESS
The times I shared with you
The laughter we also had
You helped me through with good days
And supported me with the bad.
The winter is setting in now love
The fire I guess keeps me warm
Remember the funny old times
Where we sat up till dawn.
I think of these memories
I smile when I think of you
I cry because you are not with me
I laugh at the silly things we used to do.
The house is now quiet
The kids grown, now left Home
Nothing but photos and loneliness
Is in this house with me alone.
I know I will see you again one day
But for now we are departed
Not for long love, I miss you so
Missing you with all my heart.
So please spare a place for me
Right next to your side
I'll be there when I can
And when the time is right.
Then we two shall be together again
Loneliness will be gone forever more
Hand in hand we will walk again
Down to heavenly doors.

Ansa Essien Poem
NO HOME
I turn to you for help
You turn your face away from me
I turn to you in tears
You act like you can't see.
Can't you see me turn to you
Can't you see my tears
Can't you see my pleas for help
To wash away these fears.
I call to you in desperate plight
You turn as if you want to fight
I turn to you once again
All you do is push me away.
Can you hear me calling you
Can you hear me call your name
Can’t yiu see my desperate pleas
Can you not push me away.
Why don’t you listen to me
Is it because I have no home
Why can’t you just try and see
Why I feel so alone.
I call to you for help
I call to you once again
I see your face change colour
I can also see your shame.

Ansa Essien Poem
She had a heart
As cold as ice
She had battles with everyone
That came into her life
She would say a nice word
Every now and then
But afterwards she
Would be ripping of your head
Hard to please
Hard to talk to
She didn't have friends
Enemies quite a few
We often thought
If she hated us
By the way she went
If we made a hiccup
But soon we began to realise
The one she hated
Was herself
Deep down inside
But by then it was too late
As the devil was waiting
For her at hells gate
Her battles was
An internal one
She never meant to
Cause nobody harm
Just herself.

Ansa Essien Poem
NOBODY'S NORMAL
WHAT IS NORMAL CAN YOU SEE
WHO IS NORMAL BETWEEN YOU AND ME
I LOOK AROUND AT PEOPLES LIVES
ABD WONDER HOW THEY DEAL WITH THEIR STRIFE
PEOPLE AROUND ME EVERYWHERE
I STOP LOOK AND STARE
WONDERING WHAT THEY THINK AND FEEL
DO THEY THINK THEIR MORE NORMAL THAN ME
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES IN THE WORLD
PEOPLES PROBLEMS OFTEN SHARED
MY CONCLUSION TO THIS IS FORMAL
IS THAT NOBODY IS NORMAL
BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS SOMEONE
SOMEONE TO TALK TO, SOMEONE TO LEAN ON
A FRIENDLY EAR AND ADVISE TO GIVE
IS WHAT WE NEED TO FLOURISH AND LIVE

Ansa Essien Poem
TEA MORNING
I SEE A CHURCH LOOKING OLD AND LONELY
CARS PARKED ON LEFT HAND SIDE OF STREET
NO FUNERAL GOING ON IN THE CHURCH
JUST ELDERLY FOLKS GOING FOR AFTERNOON TEA
OUT OF THE CARS THEY COME
CARRYING GOODS IN THEIR HANDS
HATS ON, STICKS IN ARMS
PARTNERS WALKING WITH THEIR LOVED ONES
LOOKING EVER SO CALM
WALING SLOWLY UP THE CHURCH PATH
WIPING THEIR FEET ENTERING THE DOOR
THE CLOCK STRIKES 11 O'CLOCK
THE GOSSIP BETWEEN THEM BEGINS TO FLOW
AND AS ALWAYS THEY SLICE THE FRUIT CAKE
POURING THE MORNING TEA
ANYONE FOR ANY
ALL GOING FOR 20P
12PM THE CLOCK STRIKES NOON
ELDERLY COME OUT THE CHURCH DOOR
SAYING AND HUGGING GOODBYE TO FRIENDS
AS THEY ENTER THEIR CARS
PARKED ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE ROAD

Ansa Essien Poem
FREEDOM
LOCKED AWAY IN A TINY CELL
FOR HOW LONG MY MIND WON'T TELL
MY MEALS PLACED IN FRONT OF ME
DON'T LOOK APPETIZING SO I WILL NOT EAT
MY MIND SEEMS TO WORK OVER TIME
LOCKED AWAY IN A TINY CELL I WHICH I CALL MINE
NOBODY DARE ASKA HOW I AM
FRANKLY BECAUSE NOONE GIVES A DAMN
THERE IS A WORLD OUT THERE WAITING FOR ME
TINY WINDOWS MAKE ME DISBELIEVE
UP IN COURT IN TWO DAYS TIME
LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET OUT THE CELL I CALL MINE
COURT DAY IS NOW HERE
NOTHING TO SAY NOTHING TO FEAR
BACK IN MY CELL FOR TWO MORE YEARS
NOONE ASKS HOW I GOT ON, NOONE CARES
I'LL BE DREAMING DRINKING AT THE BAR WITH MATES
LOOKING FOR BLOKES TO GO ON DATES
NOW IN MY CELL I DO NOT FEEL SO GLUM
BECAUSE YOU KNOW I'M ON MY WAY TO FREEDOM.
