You're a Star

Ssshhh! Ssshhh! Ssshhh!
Says who?
Says YOU?
I knew.
I doubt YOU.

Hush! Hush! Hush!
Now why?
YOU cried?
I knew.
YOU lied.

In the stillness
Is the sound of silence.
In the darkness
YOU shine the brightest.

Mind this:
A star
Is never born
In the light.
It's unnoticed
until
before twilight.

But alas!
When born
It creates the day.
It has found a way.

So YOU...
don't doubt,
don't lie.
It's ok to cry.
Yield yourself high.
Dream,
Believe,
Survive.

---Self-love is believing that you can be a star. You can shine despite the challenges you face. Do not doubt yourself nor lie to yourself. Believe and be true to yourself. Just like the sun, being the nearest star on earth, it's light shines everywhere. Just like the sun, your strength is within you.---NOTE: created on May 11, 2021 submitted as a school article for AMA OED course.

Ode to Filipinos

You are a race,
So one of a kind!
Uniquely seen
in any place.
A race with glee
In humanity.
Finds peace in God,
And happiness
In calamity.
A race so kind,
It's culture shines.
A mark of pride, yet
Nor black or white.

Short and brown,
They may be.
But remarkably
Is their capability.
Your work shows
A native gold,
Where heart's in place
In any phase.
And when they stand
Or work their hand,
Their dignity
remarkably can't hide,
Definitely,
A Pinoy Pride!

Nirvana

It was another night. It's around half past midnight. Windows are shut and doors are locked around the house. As I double-checked them to ensure the house's safety, my mind kept wandering back again.

It's the year 2025, and every house around us either has tall fire walls, or has high gates. I remembered my childhood days. Back then, those blocks around neither had such walls or gates, yet our place had been safe. People back then would even stop by to greet and to have small talks. Children were allowed to play in their neighbor's backyard, climb into trees, or run around the streets. However, nowadays, despite these tall barriers, why is it more worrisome?  Nowadays, house owners would reprimand kids of trespassing and there were mostly empty backyards, there was less laughter and most neighbors seemed estranged, trees yielded with fruits were enclosed, and it's hard to run around due to many gossips of kidnapped children. It came to a point I even thought of many what if's. I was thinking, as the newer generation appears, newer uncertainties behold their future. I wonder, how safe will they be someday?

Again, I was thinking, is it really the law that makes a better place? The government made lots of amendments yet bullying is still existent. There were police departments but lost kids were rampant. There were politicians but human rights were defiled by hush money. There were patriots but activists. There were educated people but behaviorally uneducated.

It is definitely true that the constitution provides peace and security in the community but the law should not be used against the people, for the law existed for the people and not the otherwise. To make a better place, abiding by the law is necessary but not literally followed as per articles. The law should be amended as to what would make the community better and not as protective gear towards one's assets. I hope the current generation will make the changes so that the future for the coming generation will not be full of uncertainties. Our current decisions will surely give hope for a better future.

EPITOME OF ME

Lest the eyes see,
The crystal drops in me.
How long can I be
Like a narra tree?

Lest the ears can hear,
The whispers in me.
How is it near
Like the waves of sea?

Lest the lips can speak,
The words in mind I keep.
How is it I'm weak,
I can't stand on my feet?

Though mine eyes can't see,
Ears can't hear,
Lips can't speak,
All amongst me;
There's one Above
Who knows my heart within!
The heart thus sees,
And hears, and speaks...
Hope in faith begins.

Heart By The Lake

Life is a rollercoaster of emotions
Once you are happy,
In a blink you're sad:
Or in a glimpse of a rage memory,
you'll feel at lost,
regretful of the past.

Our mind's a spring of feelings,
it's up to you
how you react.
Forgive yourself
Is one wise act.
Forgive others
Is a perfect path.

Your real self
Is in a nutshell.
You can hide it well
With words of lie,
But your acts
Cannot deny,
quietly speak high.

True kindness,
True goodness,
True depth
Of one's mind;

Our heart,
Like the lake,
Though calm at summer,
Angers in a
Stormy weather.
In a point of time,
Your shadow fades;
Conceals
Your true shade.
