Sofia Melgarejo Poem
I crawl out of bed,
The comfy one with the amazing blankets,
A secure place to hold all my secrets.
Then I continue on.
Every day, this bed swallows me up,
Lulls to sleep with its soft touch,
And spits me out to take on another day.
It's hard to do.
There are days I want to stay in bed,
To never leave;
Give up like the world gave up on me.
I never falter.
A magnificent thought brings me back to life;
"You must keep living on".
So I let the bed spit me out,
And I take on another day.

Sofia Melgarejo Poem
I watched her slip under;
The influence of death laid her still.
She would be gone forever,
I felt the grief hit.
We would no longer create delicious cookies;
Sew our first project;
Crochet our first scarf or blanket;
Never hold each other in hugs made of 4 cold hands.
Taken by time;
By age;
By death.
It hurts me in ways I've never felt.
And as I sit over her grave;
Mourning the loss of a grandmother.
I realize she would mourn me,
The loss of her granddaughter.

Sofia Melgarejo Poem
A lot has happened since you left,
Becky will never be the same.
Can you blame her?
Daddy isn't with her anymore.
All of her life, she will never have a father.
Benevolent, you are indeed.
Crying with her in my arms,
Dead you are to me.
Alas, I waste no tears on you,
But for my life I weep.
Caring for her alone,
Door closed behind me.
Another thing to worry about,
Besides how you left.
Can we survive the winter?
Discouraged by the storm.

The worst are the clearest;
As clear as water itself.
Most replay in my mind,
And only some dull out.
Good is still clear,
But has been tainted by sorrow
Sadness of what I've become;
I no longer know.
The best are diamonds in the rough,
Needles in haystacks.
As rare as they are,
They cheer me up no matter what.
Memories never disappear:
Stored in the brain's library catalog.
Engraved into your brain,
Until you turn to dust.

Sofia Melgarejo Poem
I watch a little girl,
Young and naive,
Full of energy and life,
Oblivious to the world around her.
This little girl talks to everyone,
Plays with everything,
Explores all items in sight;
Like nothing matters but her creativity.
She's a drama queen,
Always wants to get her way.
Stomps her feet up and down,
But she smiles through it all.
A light in the dark,
The spark of other's lives,
All beautiful;
I wish that was still me.
