The Summer Field

Bees are buzzing in their hives
A pony tail swish, deters the flies
Long grass waves, majestic in the wind
And over the pond the dragonflies skim
This halcyon place you love to be
Brings peace and joy eternally.

Out In the Bay

Spring has arrived in the land of the Celts
Purple crocus appears as snow and ice melts
The dawn chorus heralds a new season for all
The maple tree bare but still standing tall
Out in the bay small boats appear
The threat of winter storms finally disappears
Seasons change, like the turn of a wheel
As another begins for the house on the hill

Old Movies

How I love those movies of old
Stan & Ollie were slapstick gold
Harold the stuntman, extraordinaire
Fred & Ginger were dancing on air

MGM's lion had a powerful roar
Universal Studios had monsters galore
King Kong, the greatest of them all
When Ray Harryhausen answered the call

Fay Wray became the Queen of Screams
Hollywood, the Factory of Dreams
Little Women, the classic, both happy and sad
Whilst Pollyanna just made you glad

Seven brothers thrilled with their famous barn dance
Gene was doing ballet in Paris, France
Bette, my favourite of trouble and strife
And Jimmy really did have a Wonderful Life!

When Loved One's Depart

There are people in life we always hold dear
But fortune dictates they will soon disappear
Their life force defines the person we are
And when they are gone, we need to confess that
The one’s who adore us have no redress
They are our beloved’s we always hold dear
No one can replace them and so we shed tears
To wish them goodbye and send them on their way
To meet loved one’s in heaven whilst we mortals all pray
We wish them well, no pain or suffering
And hold them close in our hearts til our day of reckoning

Ice-Cream

Down the street came Tonibell
Inside excitement begins to swell
Dreams of 99’s, screwballs and rockets
Alas! there is no change in my pockets

Time For Change

What’s wrong with politicians today?
There is no will for political gain
All they seek is celebrity and fame
Their mantras so boring and vain

Devolution causes division
We need a leader with a vision
Who takes the issues to our streets
It’s time to let the people speak

The wind of change is in the air
To have a leader who’s just and fair
To save our green and pleasant land
We need someone to make a stand

Misty Puss Rap

There was I another puss in the cattery
Got sent down by a judge from Battersea
Two humans came so I took my chance
Showed them how I could preen and prance
Fortune struck and I landed on my feet
Now I’m the No.1 puss in the street!

Maple Tree

Your green leaves shine bright, in summertime light, before autumn’s show of glorious gold.
The winter cold strips you bare,
Then spring appears with buds galore and the promise of a summer show once more.

Land of Dreams

No more my world transcended
Dreams of love have sadly ended
I flew so high like birds on the wing
I knew I could fight and always win
I tried to escape but could not run
Stories changed from horror to fun
That fantasy realm beckons to me
Each night I enter the Land of Dreams

The Discontented Decade

Dustmen were dirty
Shoes had holes
Typewriters qwerty
Clothes were old
School was tough, kids were rough
Summers were always, quite cold

Three-day week
No power at night
Week after week another union strike
Nothing to do, so early to bed
Wake the next day to no loaves of bread

No central heating
Winters were freezing
No phone tweeting
Less coughing and sneezing
TV was great, watching films late
The Friday night Hammer, the best to see

British bulldog we played,
as gangs in the street
The shop round the corner,
had all the best sweets
And despite everything, when all’s said and done
The discontented decade was still lots of fun!
