The Man With a Guitar

Every day the man would
Sit on the cold concrete in
The midst of a bustling city, weathered
Hands strumming a wooden guitar and
Watery blue eyes full of yearning

Some people passed by, yet
Others stood still, hypnotized by
His vividly mournful lyrics and
Stories of heartbreak and abandonment
Composed within the depths and caverns
Of his own mind

And I pondered every day about
The meaning of his lyrics; why
Would the man sit on the cold
Concrete for hours upon hours, his
Watery blue eyes always searching?

But the man never uttered
Any words, never took a single
Dime; he just sang in a bereft
Soul with a guitar and a voice
Full of yearning.

Changing Leaves

The summer ends too soon
And the sun is replaced
With nothing but clouds as
Far as I can see, and
Those same clouds at night hide
The moon that has always
Been illuminated by
The sun and
I can't see through
The milky, swirling fog because
It is much too thick, and
The changing leaves of
Red and orange and yellow
Are the only colors
That still remain
In this wretched place.

Lotuses

They were like lotuses in a pond,
Born in murky waters, dirty were their roots,
Their fragile body beaten by the wind,
Slapped and slapped, almost sinking deep.

Bereft from warmth, bereft indeed,
Yet pure inside; they were willing to heal,
To take on the world, to find something dear,
To bloom proudly despite their fears.

A Nyctophile's Wish

Let all the light be gone,
And darkness sweep my bones.
A black veil that'll calm my soul,
That'll hold me down--
A escape before light fills the world.

Let all the light be gone,
The soft noises of the night to heal my heart.
Crickets, nightingales, owls;
Few cars and people moving around.

Let all the light be gone,
So I can be free, finally free,
From the bustling human world,
Close my eyes and enjoy the breeze
As darkness engulfs me.
