The Man With a Guitar

Every day the man would
Sit on the cold concrete in
The midst of a bustling city, weathered
Hands strumming a wooden guitar and
Watery blue eyes full of yearning

Some people passed by, yet
Others stood still, hypnotized by
His vividly mournful lyrics and
Stories of heartbreak and abandonment
Composed within the depths and caverns
Of his own mind

And I pondered every day about
The meaning of his lyrics; why
Would the man sit on the cold
Concrete for hours upon hours, his
Watery blue eyes always searching?

But the man never uttered
Any words, never took a single
Dime; he just sang in a bereft
Soul with a guitar and a voice
Full of yearning.

An exceptionally fine poem that catches a city street scene of a troubadour strumming tunes that linger. Visually, readers can re-create the images penned memorably in mind. Congratulations! Brian
