Art

Reading ‘Pride and Prejudice in the living room,
Sneaking into the art room - jumping for joy when you
Came through a doorway,
Braiding hair, baking meringues, spending summers together
Talking about college and change,
Comfort in your hugs taking the pain and stress,
Transforming it into art.
Until visits to home changed into a tree with flowers below,
The soft, leather couch becomes the cold grassy ground.
Loving goodbyes become an eternal wish for one more conversation
Comforting hugs turned a memory, cold feelings robbing the peace.
Hiding tears at your memory, forgetting the pictures
In a hope to halt the growing pain in my soul.
Praying for a minuscule second of comfort,
To be returned with the art of sorrow
The art that could never be as beautiful as hers.

Jolie Fille

Fair skin, light hair, bright eyes,
A future full of success and excitement,
A life of fulfillment, friends and family of adornment,
Where to go after school, what to do as an adult,
College parties, turning twenty-one, a future family;
Never knowing what really happens in that beautiful mind

Judgment, criticism, hatred,
Confinement of happiness, numbness to pain,
Pressure for perfection, a need for achievement,
Stress turned to laziness, sadness turned to anger
Faking a smile to make it through each day,
Creating a persona to please everyone around her,
Hiding her stories, trembling in her mind, terrified to open up;
Starving herself from the comfort and safety she craves

Sleep getting harder each night, thoughts of eating slowly fading,
Bags covered with foundation, cheeks painted up red, concealing her true self,
Stupid comments from stupid boys infiltrating her mind, running her life,
The trauma, the pain, heart-aching stories, memories from the past,
Haunting her mind all throughout her days,
Such a pretty girl with too many dreadful stories;
A young woman with more self-criticism anyone can bare

Clyde

Talking without ablation,
Smiles hitting like sedation,
Hearts filled with adoration,
Floating down a river of admiration,

Blushing red like mars,
No love as strong as ours,
Comfort like a blanket of stars,
Soothing relief from painful scars,

Fire between two souls combine;
Being the Bonnie to His Clyde

Toujours

The first smile, the perfection of a fantasy,
Conversation appears out of thin air, laughs endlessly fill the room,
The loneliest parts, the scars, the heartbreak, all fading away;
But are these feelings Forever?

The first ‘I love you,’ a time stopping connection,
The whisper of the tree, the flowing of the water,
Eyes set on each other, hearts racing, adoring smiles;
But maybe this can be Forever?

The first dance, the love, and safety of the stars,
Fingers laced together, two lost souls finally intertwined,
Clumsy, little stumbles, turns, and steps,
The comfort and warmth of a fairy tale;
But can’t this dance last Forever?

The first flinch, betrayal and violence ruining the memories,
Faces red, holes in walls, opposite sides shine through,
One mistake made into an epiphany of a sea of flaws,
Yells echo, tears burn, voices strain, scars reopen;
But should I still want this Forever?

The last hug, memories from their past filling her mind,
The lies, the sorrow, the agony,
It wasn’t worth the love, the trust, the time she gave him,
The walls of her heart burned to a crisp, the scars in her worsened;
I hope this doesn’t last Forever…

Le Debut

Alone in the dark, walking around in slow-motion,
Avoiding certain parts of town, suppressing the memories,
Ignoring the promises, forgetting the feelings;
But is it possible to recover from that beginning?

Reconnection, a yearning for a relapse,
Starting anew, becoming better,
Growing for him, maturing from the past;
But maybe this could be a new beginning?

Simple hi’s in the hall, waving during passing,
Trying not to be as overbearing as before,
Hoping its as special to him as it is to her;
But should she try to reignite the spark from the beginning?

Rumors arise, pictures float around,
Pretty as she passes, a smile that lights up any room,
Nicest girl to walk the earth, caring and kind;
But didn’t he say he wouldn’t start another beginning?

The break told to be temporary,
Lies arise, new forms of betrayal strike,
Heartbreaking news hit harder than before,
This wasn’t supposed to end with a new beginning...

Doubts

Doubts.

One of the worst ways you know you’re in love,
The one thing you never want to feel with your person,
Forget the flowers, date nights, hugs lasting forever,
The only thing that lasts longer: doubts.

Flooding each thought;
Every tone change, each oddly said goodbye,
Wild thoughts escaping, ruining that memory,
Filling it with the most overwhelming thing: doubts.

Trying to overcome these silly thoughts,
Knowing they can be trusted with that delicate heart,
Believing they’ll never do intentional harm,
But there’s one feeling, hidden deep, deep down: doubt.

Shatter Me

Your arms engulfed me as you swirl me through the air,
Sensing the unrelenting effort put into me,
The desire to gain my trust and love,
Longing even though you barely know me, begging me to let you in;
Waiting for me to be ready to give it all.

The fear, the trauma, the hurt.
Somehow fading away with that soft kiss,
Like ashes falling to the Earth during a war.
A war with my mind, my heart, my soul.
The war that you knew how to mend and pull me away from.

The comfort, hope, desire.
Things that terrify and haunt my mind,
All coming back with those broad hands.
A feeling unable to be replicated by anyone,
Found only in the warmth between your neck and shoulder.

The soul-binding connection in your glassy blue eyes,
Like an image of Heaven in all its glory.
The smell of pansies and daffodils and roses,
Haunting my senses with every look.
Letting my heart be yours, knowing it was right.

Eating together, laughing together,
Everything my soul had longed for.
The dancing, the love found in your beautiful soul.
Your careful touch remembering the things before,
Trying to unravel what they had done.

It all slipped away in a heartbeat.
The gates of my mind closing, the chains on my soul returning.
That undying love still there; that trust still lent out,
The past returns yet different with you,
Even when you shatter me.

Charm me, love me, shatter mer.
A never-ending cycle running my life,
Controlling my head, breaking my soul.
Lending out my heart, getting nothing in return,
A gaping void left behind.
