Seascape (1888) Van Gogh

Quick and slow, pulsed to jibe and rudder
Late dancing in the luminous waves
The boats angle the cresting froth tops

Sails arched, full burst in the briny
Air paces vastly to horizon’s rim
The hazing glow of sky to sea

They bob and streak, the prows steadfastness
Each sailor guides to the compass, knowing
The importance of destination

Sloth Summer

Bare Mayflies fan
above the reeds.
Smooth water flows
its forward bonds,
by laps on shore
to seal its deeds.

Abundantly,
the soft waves grind
a fluid line,
warm season’s clock
as both entwine,
wet sands keep time
small grains from out
the shore line rock

Pier Fishing

Oceans breathe calm
rafts of jellyfish
breeze on paper lanterns

Piles creak under
wave's rise, blue arch weight
stick ,slow slaps, picket fence

Bowed rod reveals
tug of sea's intent
empty pail sits on pier

Sidewalks

The sobriety of others cross
Our paths in shadowed lines

Their blur, a noise, a quiet breeze
Recedes in stretching time

Small permanence of our design
That we exchange in parts

Across the cobbled stone we stride
Hard fashioned, in who we aren’t

Museum Walk

Voices mutter
echoes carry on
reflecting from ceilings

Streams of faces
mirrored in varnish
pale blank stares remember

Old paint cracking
limestone's polish fades
thin civilization

Indian Summer

On Summer's edge the Fall does come to rest
Slight frost, September's morning light does best
The oak and maple leaves from green to gold
All shades of red and orange hues do hold
A splendor of the forests in full bloom
Warm breezes flow against the winter's gloom
A distant thought in summer's solid reign
Cold neighbor to the autumn's show of flame
The days recede in poverty of light
The darkness pulls the time into the night
Brief is the rest for Fall to come to stay
between the Winter and the Summer day.

Distance

Calm indulgent clouds
Clover of Spring's sky promise
Creeks full of frog song

In a Bar

And when eyes mate across room
Keen focus plays consortium
Cherubic faces locked, embraced
Their subtleties are finely placed

In winks and fluttered lashing bouts
Drool lips and nods, avoid a shout
A tipped drink sent in gentle swoons
Of lusty thoughts above the moon

And radiance under the sheets
Where lover’s love to love to meet
And so small glances dance and flash
Across the bars to itch the rash

Both genders play their fawning moves
Each in their way they send their woos
Against all chance in darken rooms
a pulse of fire flies full bloom

This August night among the weeds
bar's bio-light, the lovers feed
and if by chance their woo is won
entwined they’ll be till rise of sun

Color of the Universe

If they had told me black
I would have nodded back,
that solemn knowing kind,
in absolutes, you find.

But now they say it's green,
by conjecture and unseen,
a faintly turquoise hue
perhaps will match my yew.

(Full needled in my yard
It’s stubby trunk most hard;
It’s top of oval bloom
renounces Winter’s gloom)

But later then they say
it turns to red someday
and so with stars it goes
with us to old age woes

And so I sit and think
while sipping on my drink
am I a red or green
in someone’s color scheme?

Or do I get to choose
and wager not to lose
of all the reds and greens
in my garden, I have seen

I think I chose my rose
It’s scent across my nose.
Has never failed me yet
so red is what I bet.
