Books

A book to cover my face
A portal to a different place
Where dragons, wizards and romance roam
A different place to call my home
Reading one line after another, they do not smother
The imagery that I can only see
Give me all that I need
In books, I am the hero, the villain, and the companion
Either way, I feel like a champion
Books my home away from home
The words as sweet as honeycomb
The lines across the page
The lines that help me engage.
These books transport me to a different place
Where I can see in my mind
Where I have all that I can find

Celebration In Salvation

There is peace beyond measure
There is joy beyond compare
Joy I get from the one true Heir
A life was given to me, but One had to die
And I asked myself, why?
Why would someone give me this gift?
Who could close that rift?
I looked up and saw Him standing
Ready to give me the gift of salvation
Ready for a celebration!
I could not live without this peace, without this joy
The Son of David rose from the grave!
Even though I was depraved
Thank you, Jesus, for that gift
Only you could close that rift.

Sleep

“Sleep”
Somnus, Somnus
Those sweet words my mother sang to me
It is a wonderful state to be
How much I long for it
How much I need It.

Somnus, Somnus
For I have been asleep far too long
I have been dead in myself
I have not seen the light or heard a song
I have ignored Him
Somnus, Somnus
I cannot get peace from it
Because I have not run to Peace

Somnus, Somnus
Now I have awakened
I have seen the light, I have heard a song
I have seen His Light and heard His Song
Somnus, Somnus
I can now lay my head down a rest
Because I have been given what’s best

Somnus, Somnus
Those sweet words my mother sang to me
Now take on a new melody
Wonderful Word of Life, Amazing Grace
I will now run the race
I have no friend in remonstrance
Somnus, Somnus
I lay my head down in good conscience

That Good 'Ol Country Life

With that fresh air, and wide-open space
That country home is something I cannot erase
With fried chicken and sweet tea, which is too much caloric intake.
And my Granny's canned green beans, oh yes, please!
Where all the people know ya, and call you "sweetie"
Even if they haven't seen me in 10 years.
Where all the people say "warsh" and "tchyou" instead of you.
The country is the best place to be
It is my home
Where the people get up at the crack of dawn
And the deer begin to fawn, and the cows begin to calf.
Where the air is fresher (you get used to the cow smell).
That good 'ol country life is God's blessing here on earth
Because we know that we go home to a nice warm hearth.

Power of Music

The THUMP, THUMP, THUMP of the drums
The screeching of the guitar
The BOOM, BOOM, BOOM of the bass
It all makes me feel like I'm home
I can hear the sounds and feel the words
It cuts into me and transports me
The sound of music is a familiar sound to me
Music can make one feel and also make one forget
Music can make someone happy or make them cry
The CLICK, CLICK, CLICK of the guitar pick
The Music continues to play
To each and every person it sounds different
It reaches them in a new way.
This is the power of music, it makes a path to the soul
And teaches a person to listen.
