RAY OF SUNSHINE

A little ray of sunshine

Just a simple phrase

Uplifting human spirit

With warm gentle rays

LIFE IS NOT A BATTLE FIELD

Be strong in your beliefs and opinions
Give and receive them respectfully
Discuss , debate, disagree ,
Devoid of anger and intimidation
Be polite and behave graciously

Don’t try and change opinions
Or what others believe
With intimidation and insults
Just amicably disagree

Why the desire to be hurtful
Trying to out-speak and outdo
Using sarcasm just to be heard
Desperate for control and that final word

Stop being childish and hateful
Bullying is not a game
Spewing ugly vindictive words
Is not the way to make positive change

Insecurities play a part with bullies
Due to lack of self worth and self esteem
Feeling stronger in who they are
When humiliating and simply being mean

Strive for a better way
Strive for a more positive you
There are no wrongs or rights
Just different points of view

Try kindness and compassion
Seek qualities in your fellow mankind
Don’t engage in belittling interactions
Igniting troubled minds

Life is not a competition
A constant game of tit for tat
Being confrontational and critical
Is not the way decent humans act

You have created your own personal battle field
Fuelled by antagonism and controversy
It must be so emotionally draining
Being consumed with malice and negativity

JACKPOT

They chatted for so long
The day was here to meet
She was so excited
Feeling her hearts every beat

He was Scottish and oh so lovely
She thought he may be the one
She had looked for red flags
But there had been none

Meeting place was at the pier
The wind was blowing a fearsome gale
Her beautiful brushed hair blew wild and free
The gusts were steadfast with no intention to curtail

He stood there handsomely in traditional Scottish dress
She thought her heart had stopped
A mighty gust of wind then blew his kilt up
Thats the moment she knew…..she had hit the jackpot!!

TRUE KINDNESS

I was taught the true meaning of kindness
From the very best
That kindness comes in all shapes and forms
Has substance pure and honest

Kindness is a blessing
Both to those who give and those who receive
It comes straight from an open heart
Without conditions or deceit

NEGATIVES

Sometimes you need to step back
Even walk away
Good things always come to an end
So they say ….

When negatives enter your life
That do not bring you joy
Step back , distance yourself
Before your soul it destroys

Perhaps take time to revaluate
Refresh, clear your mind
For life is too short for negatives
So to yourself be kind

The Ruin

Standing alone in a field of green
Near the cliffs edge by the sea
Nothing in view for miles around
Just ocean and greenery

A ruin so simply beautiful
That has withstood the test of time
Determined and steadfast
Though no longer in its prime

It’s roof once shiny tin
Comprised now of one rusty sheet
The stone so lovingly hand laid
Now crumbled and incomplete

All that’s left of this home that was
Some rusty metal, wood and stone
Who lived here through the decades
Were they happy in this home?

What stories could this old ruin tell?
What secrets does it hold?
Did it house happiness and love
Or dark mysteries to be told

This ruin and where it stands
Is a compelling work of art
So intriguing and so proud
Captivates my heart!

THE LONG GOODBYE

They sit in silence at the table
Eating their evening meal
He gently wipes the food from her face
This life they now live still feels so surreal

She now sits in her recliner chair
While he makes her a cup of tea
Emotionless and still
She stares blankly at the T.V

He closes his weary eyes and remembers
The who she used to be
Her sweetness, her laughter
And a life together fulfilled and happy

Asleep now in her chair
He reflects on where she has gone
Alone and confused in her own mind
He has missed her for so long

He helps her put on her nightie
Gets her tucked into bed
His kisses her and voices “l love you my sweet”
As he gently strokes her head

She takes his hand and squeezes it softly
As a lone tear rolls down her cheek
He smiles ,cuddles and reassures her
Lovingly whispers “Oh there you are my sweet”!

Heavens On the Phone

Born into a family of fourteen
Never heard the words “I love you”
She left home a girl with little education
An army life she did pursue

She fell in love and married a soldier
Soon a mum of five
Tragedy struck early
At thirty seven her husband died

Widowed with five small children
In a time of limited support
She emigrated to Australia
On the ten pound pass she bought

She worked her life as a cleaner
Worked her fingers to the bone
To do what she had to for her children
Keep safe, educate and home

She was only a little lady
Four foot ten and no more
Her heart though was as big as the ocean
My role model, mother and mentor

She taught her children well
About life’s rights and wrongs
To show respect and be kind
Be determined and strong

In latter years we were best buddies
An unbreakable, eternal bond
Until heaven called for
My sweet little mum

LOST HERO

He had always been her hero
She his golden child
The youngest and only girl of five children
He was completely beguiled

He loved and treated each equally
A good man to them all
He was kind ,loving and protective
To them he was ten feet tall

She loved him like no other
A bond never to break
He ….would always be her hero
Her ….his treasured child of grace

Now she sits in a chair opposite him
Her eyes welled with tears
Angrily he asks her “Who are you”?
“What are you doing here”?

STREETS OF LONELINESS

They walk the streets of loneliness
Lost without direction
Doing whatever it takes
To pay for that next injection

Bodies thin and dirty
Sickness in their veins
Only thoughts in their mind
Is getting that drug again

Sadly, lost in their own minds
Mental health out of control
Somebody’s child or loved one
Broken no longer whole …
