White Saree

You my friend In White Saree and grim faced
Your dresses were, as always, colorful and laced
What happened to that enchanting, infectious smile?
Where is that enthusiasm, your charming style

Death is a reality and everyone must die
The living ones mustn't be left for agony to fry
Humans are not candles that burns through the night
Tell me why widowers are not made to wear White

Why should only women this branding endure
They are also human with a heart and soul for sure
Change this White Saree and in the garbage throw
This is how a system that is archaic must go

Come to me, my love, let me teach you what is life
Your being mustn’t be embodiment of agony and strife
Give up this white coffin and wear red, scarlet and pink
The fountain of life is gushing out; it is for you to drink

Let us, like our olden days, in horizon of thoughts fly
Life’s rainbows await you; so do colors of butterfly
Shed your gloom and let the roses of your cheeks blossom
Walk along the valley of life hand in hand with a handsome

1. Widowed women wear only white in Hindu Religion
2. Saree is the dress of Indian and Bangladeshi women

Cry of My Heart

Happiness! Do I know you?
No, I don’t. I never met you
I never shook hands with you
How do you look like?
Definitely you are beautiful

What is your color?
Is it blue, yellow, purple or red?
Beyond doubt it is red.

Why are you so short lived?
Like touch me not, like a mirage
Like departing spring
Like a withering flower
Like morning dew
Like peacock’s dance
Like breaking of a rainbow

Why are you so slippery?
Like a tablet of soap and jelly fish
Why are you so elusive?
Why are you so heartless?
Why are you flimsy?

Why do you carry with you
Dark shadows of discontent,
Exasperation and frustration
Why, why, why?

I have left the doors of my heart
Agape for you for ages
My eyes have shed rivers of tears
My heart has sent sky reaching cries.
Now come to me for heavens sake
Come to me my dream , not alone
With all the answers

The River of Sorrows

Sitting on the bank of the river I reflect
What would it be like on the other side?
Whether there will be thorns of anguish
Or blossom and ecstasy of serenity and joy

Whether it will be a sanctuary
Of birds and beasts and abounding
In colorful fishes, big and small
Or crocodiles, snakes and beasts of prey

I must go across the river, I must
My heart tells me the grass is greener
On the other side and breeze entices
Fragrant and colorful flowers to dance
In unison with elegantly dressed butterflies
 Fireflies blanketing nights of grief
With glow of sparkling happiness

How to go to the other side?
I have waited all these years
But no boat ever came this way
Tarry a little I can see the hope’s ray

A boat has appeared on the bank
Oh, no the boat has a hole in the bottom
Someone has abandoned it as unsafe
It can’t take the beatings of cruel waves
But destiny there isn’t a way out for me
Hail, thunder or storm
. Across the river I must go
The boat may be damaged and frail though

May be the boat sinks mid-stream
My cherished goal turns in unfulfilled dream
If I drown why should I cry?
With me my anguish will also die

Before my agony further grows
I must leave this bank of throes

Love

My love, O dear, isn’t confined to you alone
You are mortal and my love immortal
My undying love goes beyond horizons

I love the moon that gives me moonlit nights
I love the stars that are woven in the sky
I love the sun that brightens my days
I love mighty oceans and fathomless seas

I love mountains, embodiment of height and strength
I love the village where my mother lives
And its earth the custodian of my ancestors’ bones
I love rains that brings crops, fruits and flowers

I love music and rhythm of dancer’s Payal
I am a born lover, my love knows no bounds
It traverses the earth and scales gigantic skies
To reach the Throne of the Creator, the God!

The Bright Star

O bright star of hope! I admire your beauty and glow
You stand out in the jamboree of twinkling stars of desires
As I see from my dwelling’s window your luminous face so bright
O light in the moonless night of my life how I love your sight!

You belong to kingdom of skies and I domain of earth
Yet it is you that rules over the empire of my craving soul
Do not hide behind the curtain of my dark clouds of despair
As my eyes will open the floodgates of a catastrophic storm
The eyes that enliven with your beauty and your charm

My ship of life will be wrecked without the aid of your direction
You are the blossom of the withering garden of my dreams
Come to me my darling and fill the emptiness of my life
Without you my life is nothing but agony and strife

I recall my youthful days how playful girl I was!
In the game of hide and seek you peeped from hole in cloud
I sang a passionate rhythmic song responding to your implore.
And rendered the profound poetry of Rabindra Nath Tagore

You are the one that bestows light to my imagination
I admire you most O Bright Star in the God’s entire creation
Though sometimes the hope you give is nothing but mirage
But from the stark darkness of anguish better a flicker of hope

What Am I

I am the dew on a rose petal on a spring morning
I am a bud dying to unfold my fragrant petals
I am a heart with love’s insatiated yearning
I am the gushing water that flows in rivers and canals

I am cloud providing shade from the tyrant sunlight
I am the rain that waters the thirsty lands
I am drop of a tear on eyelashes of anguish alight
I am a desert filled with glittering golden sands

I am colors of rainbow that please the eyes and souls
I am the skylark that explores secrets of the worlds beyond
I dwell in your hearts like objects and goals
Know me I am the soul of symphony and sound

Only For You

You are the sunshine of my life
You are the hope in my heart
You are the peace of my soul.
Moonlight in despair’s darkness
A rainbow on the horizon of mind

Embodiment where happiness lies
A dream I see with open eyes
My soul yearns for you my love
Life without you is endlessly tough

I have scaled skies, believe me it’s true
I have come to the world only for you
