Not Like Before

Now is not like before
An earthquake brought the change
Memories in picture frames
Lie broken on the floor

Joys To Glean

Bathing in your gentle light
Is like splashing in the sea
Your smile dispels the dark of night
And brings the dawn to me

Our love is young and fragile too
And yet is evergreen
I find each day I am with you
There sprout new joys to glean

And though we are so oft apart
And hand in hand can’t be
Know you’re always in my heart
My sweet and dear baby

Rainy Nights

Every drop of rain brings memories
of whispers falling gently in our ears
bringing joy to hearts and melting fears

Every flash of lightning brings to mind
an image of you, a smile on your face
held in my arms in tender embrace

Every rumble of thunder a recollection
of lips on lips and skin on skin
and longing for your touch again

When storms rolled in on fierce winds
that blew strong and brought us together:
for on rainy nights we had forever

Meld

meet me
under moonlight
minutes after midnight

Sailing

By moonlight step on the pitching deck
Leave the safety of dry land behind
A quest to know what lies beyond here
The familiar and the known recede
Like sailors of ages past who left
A thousand treasures to seek and gain
She plots her course by the stars… to find a dream

The jib sail catches the sun's first light
As she sets off at the break of dawn
Miles drift by… she is alone and free
Then a voice calls to her, and she hears
Faint at first, then growing strong and clear
He beckons to her and she must choose
She turns her course to follow… to chase a dream

Wind billows the sails, the mast holds firm
The waves, like wings, flow from bow to stern
She becomes the sea, his voice the sky
Breeze, his breath, blows softly through her hair
Pure rays, his touch, caress her fair skin
The sun, his face, kiss her lips gently
She stays her course through the day... and meets a dream

Through sunset they journey together
To the vast expanding horizon
Where the sky and sea lay in repose
Lovers entwined embrace at twilight
United on this new adventure
Where East meets West, stretching forever
They plot their course by the stars... and live a dream

Touch

I cannot wait to touch you, softly
To run my fingers through your hair
Around the edges of your ears
Your temples, your cheeks
Touch the tip of your nose

Trace the outline of your lips
... and then again
... and again, more gently each time

Put your chin in the palm of my hand
Feel the outline of your jaw
Caress your neck
Sense the vibrations as you whisper my name
Close my eyes and hear you say my name

Wrap my arms around you
Around your body
Around your chest
And drift off to sleep

And dream...
Dream of walking with you on the beach
Standing with you in the ocean
Lying with you on the sand...

For hours
For days
For years
Forever

Memory and Longing

Iconic... echoic... haptic...

Are my memories

And my longings

To see... to hear... to touch...

You again

The Unicorn

Prophets spoke of a dove-white one who'd come but stay unseen
Whose alicorn and equine form could by no man be tamed

So very few dared hope her be more than only legend
I among the faithless too, 'til happed upon her presence

Behold! This perfect being! Resplendent in her beauty
Her fierce green eyes and noble mane: I was captivated

Awestruck, undone, of impure flesh: unable to pursue
This holy one, now with my heart, slipped silently away

So now I long, both night and day, to gain a second glance
By prayer and faith, some soon day, to meet her once again

To gaze upon her graceful form, and breathe her majesty
And see anew, in light of morn, what's only in my dreams

But dreams for now must be enough, through stormy nights ahead
Till winds calm and tears have dried, and I hold her near again

Closed On the Table

I sit as a book
closed on the table
most familiar strangers
judge the cover
and ignore

Some pick up
and start to read
but do not continue
past the introduction

few have read on
but they know:
warm, alive, engaging
filled with illustrations
bursting the seams
of the imagination

I create no illusions
straightforward...
a soul yearning to be free
to be read...
to be understood
more often than happens now

So I open myself...
now exposed
lying open on the table
still only a few care to read

those who only browse
and skim the pages
I will call friends too

Enthralled

Let us lie together
Beneath the sunlight of the moon
The Milky Way our blanket
As we hear the crickets’ tune

I’ll sing to you a love song
Each verse in perfect rhyme
And gaze at you with ardent eyes
Enthralled that you are mine
