Secret

Will you listen to my story?
What if I asked you not to tell?
Could you promise me your silence?
Could you promise me no one in the world would ever know?
I didn’t think so, I would be a fool to believe in the fairy tale of perfection.
You are only human my dear, it’s not your fault.
So you will never know.
Sshh… your secret is safe with me.

My Violin

A single sound has the ability to mesmerise an audience, tantalise an undesired emotion and grip a person to the edge of their seat.
A bow sliding effortlessly across four tightly pulled strings immerses the player and listener together, becoming one.
This connection can last a lifetime, in a favourite song or memory and can never be reversed or defeated.

People all over the world are creating music.
Each sound unique, powerful.
Full of hope.
A hope that someday, someone will hear them and listen,
and compose a symphony so harmonically beautiful it pulls the heartstrings.

I call it,
love.

For the Love of the Ocean Lover

I trembled. Not in fear but excitement.
Squishing my toes into the cold soft sand I focus my energy on her.
Her miniature waves ripple towards me, almost reaching my invisible toes but never quite touching; constrained by her daily laws from the moon and the sun.
Her waves retreat shyly into her deepest depths with an apology for the disturbance.
I take a cautious step forward, my arms quivering from the slight chill in the salty air.
Another firm and deliberate step grants me access into her world until finally my hips are hidden in the shimmering glass.
A hint of gold appears as the sun creeps up from behind the horizon.
I breathe in deeply, close my eyes and plunge into icy darkness.
My eyes are opened and I see.

The Man On the Moon

As a child I was curious of the moon,
How do I get up there, it had to be soon,
It’s ability to float so delicately in the sky,
held up by invisible ropes keeping it up so high,
waiting for it to fall, to run out of light
to run far far away almost out of sight.

But yet it came back day after day,
And month after month,
What could I say,
It liked to keep an eye on me,
That old man on the moon,
For it was my grandad,
Who was taken too soon.

The Choice

What is my quest?
A continuous battle to reach that light in the distance?
But it is never anything more than a faint flicker on the horizon
A trick of the light maybe, a teasing angel, turkish delight, a trap.
No, my fate is not sealed in the happiness and contentment of a normal life.
It’s out there, in the wilds, in the waves, in the storm.
It’s not happiness I’m after but the dazzling euphoria of hysteria that lingers at the back of my mind.
Nudging me, not towards that fading light but into the darkness that promises a perilous and incredible journey.

Back Home

There’s a gentleness to the swing of the hammock,
a relief in the sharp breathlessness of a cold breeze,
a satisfaction from the soft and prickly grass between my bare toes,
a sweetness as my warm fingertips clutch a mug of chamomile tea.

I daze intently at the baby blue and pink sky,
waiting for the dazzling sunset that a Scottish summer promises,
calling me back whenever my roots need to be fed,
reminding me of the place I use to belong.
