Brenda Schaufler Poem
Walking down
A lonely road
With trees on either side
The light is dim
And the sun is hidden
Behind the graying clouds
Rain is falling
The mud is thick
And loneliness
Surrounding
The trees ahead
Outlined in fog
Are dark and looming
Shadows
The path goes on
And never ends
On this lonely road
But up ahead
The sky is clearing
The sun is peaking through
The sky turns blue
And the mud dries up
Three feet ahead of me
A friend is standing there
And joins me on
This endless road
Not lonely any more

Brenda Schaufler Poem
To pass by
I hide my face
I can’t let her see
Everything that hurts me so
And all that my eyes can be
It’s my eyes that show so much
It’s my eyes that talk the most
So my eyes I hide
To cover up
The things I feel inside
“Don’t hide your eyes,”
My mother says,
“They’re so beautiful to see
Nothing can change
The way you feel
Nothing can take that away”
“I know, you hope
I can’t see
The way you feel inside
But I’m your mother
I can help some way
Everything can change”
“Think about it.”
She told me then
But now I feel so proud
I can look her in the eyes
And show her
All the things I feel inside
