Open Your Eyes

Open your eyes, look all around
People can do awful things, without making a sound
If you really look, you will see
The terrible place this world can be
Few get in trouble for doing wrong,
Its been this way all along
Maybe if everyone opened their eyes,
The bad in this world would shrink in size

Shallow

Shallow as a pond that you can see right through,
I know what to expect, its nothing new
People focus on the silly things, not what really matters
For if they saw what was really valuable,
Their inch deep world would shatter
They have no substance, they are paper thin
To be this way is quite a sin
To only see the outside, not what really counts
This way of viewing the world, will never in truth amount

Brave Face

Put on a brave face,
Cover all your scars
Don't let them see the real you,
How broken you really are
Hide away the sadness,
Wipe off all your tears
It's funny how no-one notices,
After all these years

Broken

Broken,
Pieces scattered on the ground
Shattered little fragments,
Crushed without a sound
People walk all over them,
Grind them into dust
Blow around, forgotten,
Swept away in a gust

Revelations

As you grow older the world is revealed,
A terrible man, a smile conceals
He appears friendly and kind, but is sharp as a thorn
The way you saw people as a child is torn
The beautiful buds are now wilting fake flowers,
The people you mistrust, are the ones full of power
Your childhood hero,
From a ten to a zero
The world a much darker place,
Than you saw long ago with your small little face

Although as you grow older you see also light,
The devoted small number that do all that's right
A pit to fill in, they make it a mountain
Between every mud-hole, springs a clear fountain
For no-matter how much evil casts a shadow on all that's good,
There are always the people who would repair the world if they could

Stop Expecting

I need to stop expecting,
The wrong in the world to change
For the depth of evils penetration,
I can't even begin to gage
What's the point of hoping,
For a thing that will never come
It's best to stop looking for good,
In a place it has ceased to come from

Courage

Doing what is right,
When all others do is wrong
Standing out in a crowd,
When no-one else dares be so loud
Speaking for whats correct,
Even if you gain no respect
Protesting for the truth,
While others deem you uncouth
This is the truth about being brave,
Speak up for justice, the world you will save

Undertow

On the surface the water is nice,
To step in and swim would cost you no price
But when you step in, you feel a sharp pull
It comes from the water that seemed gentle and cool
The rippling liquid pulls you down under,
Is everything how is appears?
Its this that I wonder.....

Burning Out

Burning fast and high, but not for long
Flickering away without a final song
Burns so so bright, but its gone so fast
Disappearing is a second, only embers last
The embers linger, a reminder of what was
But in the end they're gone, no matter what one does
