I CHOSE TO RUN
I’d always been an extrovert,
Performed on the amateur stage.
But now I thought the time had come
To turn another page.
Time to turn professional,
To shed off inhibition.
So there I was in the darkened wings,
Awaiting my audition.
“Next,” the director shouted,
“We haven’t got all day,”
And that was when I lost my nerve
And turned and ran away.
Looking back I wonder
How my life would have been
If I had walked out on that stage
And acted out my scene.
By now I’d be a household name,
Famous near and far.
Everywhere my name in lights,
A stage and movie star,
Posing for selfies with my fans,
Signing autographs galore.
Going through a third divorce,
The press camped at my door
But, of course, that’s all a pipe dream,
Because I chose to run.
Like Dolly I’m working nine to five
And I’m still with wife number one
26th October 2022
I chose to run, but if I'd stayed things would have been like poetry contest

Last night in my dream the red-eye monster was canvassing the neighborhood, followed me through the eerily quiet streets to my home, and set foot on the patio below my window through which I could see its thorn crown.
I woke up trembling and then, an hour later, it revisited this time
inside the kitchen, feasting on homemade cookies until
it was my shriek of fear that grabbed its attention
and it stepped up to my room, locked from inside, and then
it was an ear away whispering, thou shall not worry, I'm done for the night, though I'm not a guy working nine to five at a bank. But I shall be back. I woke up in my dream to the aroma of coffee and rays of sunshine, looked down and saw it sipping on the patio, fresh for its morning assignment, looked up and gave me a friendly hello.
Did you get a good sleep? Swell. And that's when my incessant cough began.
Working nine to five
No time for unity
No time for family
No time for discovering
No time for recovering
Always in a rush
Can't catch your breath
Ignoring your health
Only thinking wealth
Sinking deep can't get any sleep
Can't even count a sheep now that is deep
Take a step back rewind a little
Be still awhile
Observe and listen
When you are gone and alone
The world will still evolve
So don't be quick to push aside or erase
Those you truly cannot replace
I’m in your reign
You command thunder
And stir lightning
I’m in your ring
Working nine to five
Sweating for your love
I’m in your train
It’s a one-way ticket
A nonstop trip babe
I’m in your hair
Like tropical breezes
And I’m stung
===============
I’m in your rain
You command respect
And I soak in every word
I’m in your eye
I’m your apple
You take a bite
I’m in your head
And I’m lost
Out of my mind
In your shopping bag
Pinned to the bottom
Of your love’s spree
===============
I’m in your debt
You shop…shop
Until I drop
I’m in your pocket
Soaking wet
In the washing
I’m in our ship
Walking the plank
Oh my captain
I’m in your heart
Oh what luck
I found love
