I Chose To Run
I CHOSE TO RUN
I’d always been an extrovert,
Performed on the amateur stage.
But now I thought the time had come
To turn another page.
Time to turn professional,
To shed off inhibition.
So there I was in the darkened wings,
Awaiting my audition.
“Next,” the director shouted,
“We haven’t got all day,”
And that was when I lost my nerve
And turned and ran away.
Looking back I wonder
How my life would have been
If I had walked out on that stage
And acted out my scene.
By now I’d be a household name,
Famous near and far.
Everywhere my name in lights,
A stage and movie star,
Posing for selfies with my fans,
Signing autographs galore.
Going through a third divorce,
The press camped at my door
But, of course, that’s all a pipe dream,
Because I chose to run.
Like Dolly I’m working nine to five
And I’m still with wife number one
26th October 2022
I chose to run, but if I'd stayed things would have been like poetry contest
