The early morning walkabouts
gathers in the view
an ocean tide of green yellowed sprouts
splashing throughout in garden cue
as flower buds edge forth upon the turf
and petal blossoms flutter down to earth.
It's late spring n pause assumed
upon the garden splash
when flowers once budded and bloomed
but never seem long enough to last.
but there it is, a rhapsody
somewhere hiding in tree leaves.
Unseen but well heard
a ballad for the seasons repeating
an echoed repertoire of a mockingbird
filled with spring and summer greetings
calling out melodies earth-shaking
enjoy the Sunday morning with little hesitating.

A visit to Grandmother's house meant a tour
of her flower garden even before the food was
served. Her garden sported many varieties from
friends, neighbors or relatives. These walkabouts
were highlighted by her explanations of the history
and performance of each plant. My awareness of,
and growing love for, the miracle of earth's harvest
stems from those lazy strolls around the perimeter
of her yard while our stomachs growled, the roast
shriveled in the oven, and her words washed over
us in the heat of the mid-afternoon sun. My favorite
photo of Grandmother, she's offering a blossom to
my sister from one of her many rose bushes and her
voice lulls me anew as my memory board replays
the feel of clean air and sunshine and brings back
the fragrance of honeysuckle and roses.

Disco dreams and disco balls
Big city,bright lights
Pub crawls and bar fights.
Mini frocks and hair dyes
Made up faces
Mascara filled eyes.
Vodka martinis and champagne
Bus trips and black cabs
Standing in the rain.
Nightclubs and deejays
Entry stamps on wrists
And tattooed fists.
Late nights and hangovers
Fast cars and kebabs
White wine spritzers
And mishaps.
One night stands and live bands
Autographs and queues
Sing-a-longs and sad songs
And over packed loos.
One line gags and handbags
Glitter and sparkling eyes
Cigarettes and suffragettes
Gossip and lies.
Brawls,another one falls
Drunks and punks
Frilly skirts and love hurts
And late rides.
Secret kisses and front row seats
Cinema aisles
Red lipped smiles
Beauties and beasts.
Flashy cars and night time stars
Takeaways and glad rags
Silly jokes and whiskey cokes
Dreams and high hopes.
Nights out and walkabouts
Cheap thrills and teenage wonder
Hitch hikes and motorbikes
Delinquent lightning and thunder.

my finest moments are littered
with broken pieces of twilight,
and Crucifixion silenced
my hall of soul and light
but as the first moment
after the chaos of a storm,
light returned to filigree
and bewitch me every morn
my illumination came
with skeins of pain and pride,
and yonder on the windowsill
my hide is tanned and dyed
Ive wandered off the path
and traveled terrain for goats,
I waded through the mud
and around a castles moats
my walkabouts have taken me
to places far and wide,
but deep within my being
each cell is wattle lined
my ills and pains are eased
when I look just out the door,
and gum trees stay a swaying
and leaves do dance the floor
and endeavoring to fill
the hole that scars in part,
I bend and pick up red dust
its the essence of my heart
