I was better off in my hammock, at the heart of the Amazon,
That rue Saint Marc, or rue Jules Guesde, without flames
My only enemies were mosquitoes and pirhanas,
Not the bakers, the students or the vanitous drunk,
I was better thinking of couroupitas or guaranas, (1)
In my hammock at the heart of the great Amazon, sleeping
I had seen the banana sellers, simple people like me,
Not journalists, principals or pretentious factors,
I was better in my hammock at the heart of the Amazon,
Everything was silent as in a transparent cathedral
Two or three friends were sleeping by my side in the jungle,
We could dream of black caracaras, aracaris blues,(2)
(1) these are plants from the Amazon
(2) these are birds from the Amazon

When He stood by God's throne,
there was no vanity in Lucifer:
beautiful, graceful and trusted...
he kept Heaven bright with a light
of purity, all angels admired him;
and that was before, until he was hurled
down to earth for his loathsome rebellion.
No other angel of the three Heavens
resembled him in beauty and character;
God gave him extraordinary handsomeness,
and that imposed power over the others...
we'll never know the purpose of his creation,
perhaps God wanted to test him for his loyalty.
Eventually, he fell and became Satan;
his smile of grace turned into grin,
then he rebelled against the Almighty
and corrupted many angels' minds,
so they became the army of Hell.
And there he waits for the fallen ones,
who like him have rebelled and disobeyed;
if among you there's a vanitous one
who thinks he can be higher than God,
turn away from him...his reign will be brief.
