The 10th Deadly Sin

Portals of perception …
they used to get taught
to seekers and dreamers
and children unwrought

Depravity and greed
force fed to the young
with lies and betrayal
—their futures forgone

Come What May

Be ready for the futures that await;
The battle really lost is that not fought:
For no one is exempted from their fate.

Whatever plans we chalk upon the slate
Are easily erased, but still we ought
Be ready for the futures that await.

Some outcomes we are sure to execrate,
Yet still we can’t escape what life has brought,
For no one is exempted from their fate.

And life demands that we participate:
Those lessons profit most which come unsought.
Be ready for the futures that await.

No matter if the path is bent or straight,
We can’t elude the net wherein we’re caught:
For no one is exempted from their fate.

We may object, rebel or agitate;
But time, once passed, can never be unwrought.
Be ready for the futures that await:
For no one is exempted from their fate.

Rose

I
Your open petals,
Warm scent, welcoming smile
Ignites a fire from a mile;
Flame of passionate unwrought metals.

Please do not quench it that burns
But does not consume.
Let me be covered beneath those hidden turns
Where I constantly want a part of me;
I'm convinced it's charmingly death dealing
But enigmatic and mysteriously inviting.

II
Rose,
My eyes have seen enough,
I'm now strong, hard and tough,
I want a part too for my nose!

Let me feel your boundlessness,
The inside of your being;
The oily part, the New Testament's richness
Let me testify to your reign,
Let your fire consume me at once
Let me taste death in your hands!

III
Quietly release from your bud,
Let my insects pollinate your sweet essence:
The centre of excellence
And produce more lines of womanhood.

Do not extinguish this fire that burns
Through our forest of true love stories,
Let the fruit-eating birds
Disperse your seeds in their droppings;
Roses are red, let them regenerate.
And let the dead resurrect!

Vincent

July 29, 1890

Colored daubs and swatches
crave artist’s practiced hand.
Justice, nearly blind, yet watches—
unwrought art upon a stand.

Regard the brushes in a row—
the palettes and the sponges.
Genius maimed by status quo,
vain a hope that fate expunges.

Guttered myriad lifelong dreams—
in desperate ruination.
Fading now the piteous screams
of self-inflicted termination.

Time Passes

Abruptly then adoring praise—
contrived their sudden expertise.
Rude cabal who would appraise—
byzantine their guileful sleaze.

Each masterpiece a servant
of craven yearn and greed.
Bang the gavel, swift and fervent;
sate purveyors’ inveterate need.

Justice now is truly blind;
vanished those She would impute.
His final piece is left unsigned;
and undisclosed, for now She’s mute.

A Hearts Path

Do you ever stop to wonder
as you go on about your life
why when people try just to be normal
you see dreams put to the knife

when you walk down the road
that you have chosen as your way
and you see the beaten path
as you walk it day by day

Do you ever look out from the path
and think it so unfair
that you often can glimpse beauty
and only wish that you were there

When the sight can take your breath away
do you smile, hope and pray
only to sadly drop your head
as the path once more turns away

Why fall prey to the hopelessness
and pain of dreams unwrought
why live a life filled with what ifs
when for those dreams you could have fought

The next time you catch a glimpse
of a place you want to see
tear your feet free from the path
and go where your heart wants you to be

So don't follow the path
but to your heart be true
to be alive is one thing
but to live is something new

So don't try to be normal
if your special let it show
let others be gently guided
by your hearts contented glow
