Love
That mummified enigma
Bearing bones and thorns
To all who would taste of its blood
Love
That hideous façade
Which appeals to men
But at its tail dwells tears
Love
Is a biased inferno
Which leaves unsinged a few
And most burnt.

The world and its beauty gone
I kneel in prayer with only dawn:
A wift of snow, a little flake
Settled still on a palm to wait
And there melt into a little lake
Moving from a cold solid state
And next to see the palm dry
And so the sudden blue of sky
Me or my words I cannot tell
I only breathe until will retires
And His purpose takes control
For heavenly things hope aspires
For better meaning of the soul.
Faith brings me where I kneel
Before His awesome greater love
And then to wait and next to feel
Unsinged and quivering, a dove
Of peace, a certainty of calm sight
A sudden bloom of inward light
All this opens the door that is me
And in a grain of sand I blinded see
The presence of truth and eternity.
A snowflake is but a whisp of me,
My prayer is the melting of the soul
The music of a primal lute
The submission of daily control
The gentle rain upon the hungry root.

Three did not bow down
To the king's idol... music...
Doomed to the furnace.
Seven times hotter,
The flames leaped out opened doors
Consuming king's men
And burning the ropes
Of the three thrown in the fire
Freeing them to dance
Round the Son of God;
They came out alive, unsinged
With no smell of smoke.
Dedicated to Caleb for his make-believe hero, Fire Boy.
