Hospital visit
I sit in the waiting room there are no magazines
to read anymore, everybody has mobile phones look
at photos of themselves and friends.
I drink coffee from the coffee dispenser is bland as
the hospital walls
Two women sit nearby; one has her hair in a big bun
the other has a smaller on-top of her air, middle-aged
worries about the grandchildren, but outwardly calm.
A woman sitting in an electric wheelchair rolls in
she is not well, opens a plastic bag and throws up
A nurse hurries into the room; this is an emergency
wheels her into a treatment room.
My wife comes out, a big smile on her African face
no, she has not got cancer but needs knee surgery.
She is a colourful sight and wears many rings and bracelets
today, she is dressed in bright red and green, lights up
the dour hospital ambience.
We drink coffee in the canteen while she tells me about
her painful left knee
The hospital smelt of disinfectants strong bleach many potions, polish and ether,
Cleanliness so important always clean and polished, in the waiting room, leather,
A policeman down a corridor in a terrible hurry held his helmet by its chin strap,
He had appeared with a young girl a head wound was upset sat bleeding in his lap.
Many sad people waiting in agony for news wandered about around the waiting rooms,
Chain smoking cigarettes their eyes staring blindly towards cleaners with brooms,
An old man in pain feeling sick had caught two fingers in a heavy steam train door,
Rocking with pain bleeding he is getting impatient he should have been seen before.
Looking through a reinforced glass window of a door was a snow white treatment room,
A man in white was dabbing something yellow that stung before bandaging the wound,
The silence was broken there was a commotion by doctors nurses all running around,
Two policemen carried a seriously injured man that had been knocked to the ground.
i need to know you'll always care
and you should know i'm always there
day treatment room 3
your no longer with me
but i sit where we first met where i impressed you with my poetic art
and i cry and beg GOD to leave a space for you in my now torn heart
when your not around
i suffocate like i'm 6 feet underground
no longer a broken heart
cause in your life i was able to be apart
