Have you ever reached
into that bag of goodies
that is your life
and experienced
that tummy-dropping sensation
when you find it
to be a tad empty
a little short-handed
not containing what you need
for your current situation
and everything
absolutely everything
becomes one massive
all pervasive
reverberating echo
making you feel
positively, undoubtedly
unable to cope
and in your mind
all you can hear
pulsing
over and over
is a great big disbelieving
“Not now, please not now!!”
and then
you pucker up
pull your shoulders back
ignore the smell
and scrape the burnt
top layer of toast into the sink
leaving the deluge of burnt crumbs for later
‘cause hey
we all love a good ole buttery crunch.
You think that cowboy is all chatter
Seems to rattle on about stars
Truth is what you think makes no difference
He's about to taste first love
She has long golden hair
We've seen it before when a cowboy gets the wobbles
Won't be worth a damn for some time to come I'd guess
It won't be long before his head gets to turnin'
Be a little short handed 'til she tells him "yes"
Cowboys fall in love
Harder than other people
You'll hear him say "shucks"
He might even say "yes ma'am"
First time he's ever been wise

For Contest It Takes Four
Our flag crumbled the fell crushing its HONOR.
We the people felt humbled, not swell lusting new power.
TRUST finally gave way, now tragically lost.
For more dust we pray, even knowing the cost.
Confused because facing two separate ways,
RESPECT was desperate and left in a maze.
MORALS were abandoned, now new trends left free to spark.
The moon's royals became short handed it only stays dark.
In the end our PRIDE, it was drowning.
As we the people cried, ( please no frowning ).
PRIDE - * HONOR my TRUST & RESPECT my MORALS *
this poem of the future should be read in a chant form.
