Ropeburn Godzilla

ROPEBURN GODZILLA

i was looking for the brown bottle
she had imagined for me
even promised
leaf shadows
35 year old doughnuts
still
in the closet
i am reading this in a m o n o t o n e
unctuous
which she would have appreciated
all the years of pantachromic salted rhyme
reading alone
on a gray beach on an ok day
looking
for that bottle

A Triad of Haiku III

Small, Unctuous frog,

Squatting on his lily pad,

Only yawns to eat.
--------------------------------------

Gaudy cherry trees,

Fearful of a rising wind,

Grip their blossoms tight.
--------------------------------------

The stream's headwaters

Have not yet seen the valley;

Nor we yet Heaven.

At a Country Club

I took a walk on Yorkshire green
And met a snobbish English lord
He asked what right I had to been
In gentlemanly tones so bored
I smiled at unctuous nose so high
And said I had na' meant t' pry
But I'd been simply walking by
And stopped to sip a little rye
But if I'd hurt his simple pride
To please consider suicide
He left in such a royal huff
It must a been just quite enough
T'see a man wi' soul sa free
He'd deign t' e'en speak wi' thee

Abstractions

Lithesome words like ‘love’, ‘loyalty’
And ‘liberty’
Lie, like mollusks on the sea
Bed; closed clam shut
Not revealing
Anything but
An unctuous feeling
And when prized open
By a devouring question
The contents give one
Indigestion.
So let’s not swallow
Such squirming terms
These loathsome, lithesome, worming words.
Meaningless and absurd
But if they are our sole default,
Let us take them with a pinch of salt.
