“A Positive Poem Contest”
What is this void you try to fill,
A void empty yet stuffed with society's swill,
Stark emotions driven by dopamine,
Scrounging for joy on a subconscious mezzanine,
Started all by a demented serpent's lie,
If you eat it's fruit, you will not die,
Followed by a sin that affected all humanity,
Which even caused this void of insanity.
Being brought up wrong,
in the gray, twisted light
of a damp town.
Growing up knotted,
turning my hands to the bad,
scrounging my body
from its hard baked earth.
Casting shade everywhere,
risking all and nothing -
I fell.
I had to discover,
that love casts no shadows,
it was then,
that my inward silhouette,
erased its own a dark recalling,
and a long-hobbled past
disappeared.
She was scrounging for something
I thought I should ask
But the answer she gave me
Shocked my heart
She said she was looking for her dignity
Which had been snatched by some men
She said she was looking for herself
For she had lost it at that very moment
Suddenly I realised my cheeks were wet
Her face gave chills to my spine
But she didn't tense or even cry
As she had learnt to say "I am Fine"
A crippled mass of beggars
Each at the corner of every street
Deformed by cruel and greedy hands
They perform their daily feat
Of scrounging from the passers by
The people in their cars
Their pathetic, doleful entreaties
Oh, how my heart it scars
Yet who is the beneficiary
In this profit-full career?
I'm sure it's not these limbless souls
Whose lives are not there nor here.......
Whose plight we don’t wish to hear
It saddens my heart to see
Someone’s precious child
Now grown, drug addicted and broken
Spirit and soul defiled
Existing only for the next fix
Unkept and homeless
Feeding their habit
Earning money doing tricks
Sleeping on filthy streets
Scrounging through disgusting trash
Frantically searching for anything
To convert into cash
Such a desolate existence
Decaying body ,mind and soul
Escaping their inner turmoil
In a deep black hole….
Ego Veni Vidi Vici.
On the Citadel of Learning
Where intellectual intrepidity thrives
WE CAME as the gullible scrounging for knowledge.
On the Ivory tower of scholarly display
Where philosophies and ideologies are born
WE SAW invaluable imprints and imparts of Saintly Scholars.
Our polemic justice to the Professor's poetry
Certified us for the coveted convocation
WE CONQUERED the courses excellently through God.
(Ego Veni Vidi Vici--- We Came, We Saw, We Conquered)
A shine better than sunrise,
Presence better than moonlight.
For without you,
No direction I would go to.
When forlorn at night,
You’re the star that guides.
When lost at sea,
From the lighthouse, you seek for me.
When no one can see,
You’re sure to agree.
A life of toil,
With you always spoiled.
Without you,
My life's a-spoil, scrounging for spoil.
A life so bland,
You make it grand.
Life so lonesome,
But there you stand,
Always with a helping hand.
For many generations
Impoverished nations
Gather around
On dusty ground
To wait and lament
On a vain life spent
Scrounging for food
And praying for good
But feeling left
Bereaved and bereft
They fuss and they fret
For they feel they don’t get
But looking around
On sun hallowed ground
They could see the wheat
Of heavenly meat
Lying in piles
For miles upon miles
But they look at their noses
In religious poses
Missing the sight
Of a loving God’s might
