Hurry To Him, Concubines
Burnished pheasant,
Repulsed by noon's bright sunshine,
Rasping brazenly,
Calls the plump hens to his side...

I saw a frightened argus pheasant

Premium Member Anteater Gibbon and Kangaroo Too
Anteater’s ideas are absolute.
Buff-cheeked gibbon gives them a toot.
Tree kangaroo throws down a shoot.
Peacock pheasant gives them the boot.
I run away with all of their loot.
I am kind of a robber galoot....

A literati once told me
    the difference between a peasant
and a pheasant is only 'H'

  I replied, the difference between

Early Morning Call
The sky was an opaque blue,
with small pink clouds dancing through.
The tops of the trees,
turned to a brilliant green,
as the rising sun blessed them,
with its golden sheen.
A cock pheasant was sending out,
his early morning call,
thrushes and black birds were singing,
at the wonder of it all.
Dawn is such a wonderous thing,
it makes my heart glad,
when I hear nature sing....

Katrina
Out of the gulf came a voodoo child
spawned from the depths of hell,
And cast upon this melting pot
her black magic spell.
And the voodoo child she watches
her dark potion swell
To envelop and engulf the
poor serf and peasant.
Now the dead of the past
greet those of the present,
And form their bonds 'neath
the citie's pale crescent.
And the voodoo child she cackles and
twirls her feathers of fowl and pheasant....

Premium Member Autumn's Breath
Dry leaves rustle with each step Noisy autumn here beneath my feet My golden wood a wondrous place Woodpecker's song repeat, repeat... The stag his antlered crown parades While gleaning in the harvest fields The pheasant cock calls his mate Such small wonders this autumn yields... The fire draws me to sit awhile And ponder the passing of the year How quickly it is autumn's time again Time to remember and hold it dear

Grassy Ground
The pheasant has laid her eggs on a grassy ground
She's joyously restless though fears in her abound
She's aware of the haughty hounds roaming around
The pheasant has laid her eggs on a grassy ground
She knows nature will protect them with love profound
Her eggs will hatch and chicks will fly victory crowned
The pheasant has laid her eggs on a grassy ground
She's joyously restless though fears in her abound

Humpty Dumpty of Avalon
King Humpty Dumpty sat on a high hill
In Avalon just round the mill
Four story book dragons guarded his place
What went inside no one could tell
Once in a while he would ride to Camelot
When the day was mild and not too hot
Devoid of purpose or any will
The old King would be ready to kill
A pheasant or any bird in the bush
For one in hand is better than two in the sagebrush
Hail Humpty dumpty the king of the past
The time has come to return at last...

The peacock struts, it is a sight to see
Spreading a fan of its color with glee
Iridescent tails that are green and blue
Showing off in mating rituals to view
From a member of the pheasant family born
If losing another, like anyone would mourn
As they eat grain, fruit and seeds before flight
Some people don’t know these birds can fly
Often mesmerized by their beauty to the eye

Premium Member Leopards Secret Power Animal
Leopard had a secret, he did not dare tell
His power animal was not an easy sell
Feathers and fur do not often mix
He was in a pickle, a jam, a little fix.

His power animal did not have fur.
Or polka dots, and it did not purr.
Pheasant was the power animal he had.
Something dainty, tiny, not big or bad.

Lion had a fierce monster named Ike.
Panther had a bull dog named Spike.
Bear had a bobcat named Devil Mistake.
Leopard’s pheasant was named quiet Jake....

A Pheasant In the Grass
I lie here in the prairie wind
Covered by grass that has no end
Just a pheasant seeking shelter
From a world that's helter skelter
'Tis the season of guns and dogs
And grown up men in camo togs
I stay as still as I can lie
In hopes the world will pass me by
I hear a gun and words out loud
Announce a kill in words so proud
I see them turn the other way
And I will live another day
This land is mine, I know it well
And men with dogs can burn in hell

Pheasant In a Poppy Field
The ring-necked pheasant
captured in flight
on a coffee cup
never gets anywhere.

So it is with us.

Continually
the question -- the peaceful
insanity of elevator music.

Which poppy field
are we off to? Will we
shatter wings
or soar like Icarus II, sensing
wind and astonishment;
licking sun-cracked lips
till feathered shadows
paint sidewalks --
moreling the faint pink morning
while the hunter
cups us in gnarled hands
whispering
             we are good....

Premium Member Feather Soup
For something especially yummy
Try feather soup
It tickles the tummy
And has no musical after effects.

Be careful not to scorch
Your feather soup
Lest you end up on the porch
Waiting for the air to clear.

Chicken feather soup is good for everyday
Turkey feather soup is for the holiday
Pheasant feather soup, as tasty as you please
Pillow feather soup we're sending over seas.

Stir upon occasion
Season to taste
Serve with parsley
And don't tell anyone what it is....
