Gasping
rasping
clasping
grasping
condemned man's last gasping, rasping breath,
hands on the noose clasping, grasping- death

(* Tyburn was the site of public hangings in London from the 12th century,
executing everyone from Highwaymen to Clergymen, at what is now Marble Arch)

Deni Easter 2015
The unhistorical museum
Misses thousands of years
Its grazier-rich sole reference
To peoples whose breath has lingered millenniums
Is a back-of-drawer
Cast-away reference
To the problem.

In square-framed wall hangings
Escutcheons of capital dominate
Captured views of time-challenging
Individual property-retaining ramparts
Outside maggies and their feathered foes
Still remember
How to circle....

Some Days
Some days need more hours.
Some meals need more wine.
Gardens need more flowers
If their bulbs are in decline.

Some walls need more hangings.
Some food needs more spice.
Banjos need more twangings
So their music will entice.

Some homes need less clutter.
Some rooms need more light.
Bread may need more butter
So the taste will be just right.

Some jokes need more laughter.
Some ‘hoods need less crime.
Since it’s time I’m after,
Hereby ends this rhyme....

In the world of Flydom false religion
is compared to spiritual contagion.
Baalzebug alone is god, hence heresy
exists only as a rare possibility.
Hence, there are no crazed fanatics
to stoke the flames of heretics,
no gruesome hangings, no quarterings,
no cheering public beheadings.
Yet compared to such gory executions
condemned flies prefer two common substitutions:
the sudden swap they never get to hear
and the suicidal plunge in stale warm beer.

Listen to poem:
Ice Hangings
David J Walker

My backward
Paradise
Has entered an
Extended season
Of unexpected ice

Unwelcomed
Not needed in
The February storm

That formed after an
Abnormally warm week
Of unwinter like weather

Winter has moved back in
decorating with
ice hangings like
stalactites formed
over a week of
bitter cold nights
that at any moment
might come crashing down

The thing is
we are bound to have
warmer weather again
but not until
Spring sets in...
