Old Rat

He lives in the hole and hidden places ,
Devouring foodstuff and books in cases ,
He tries to escape the cat
But falls into trap on mat ,
Which makes the old rat to see dead faces .

Eak - Corncrush Jam

‘Eak - corncrush jam again for tea,’ he said,
And pulled a face of utter dread.
‘You know I’d rather have a dozen things.
‘No other teatime foodstuff brings
‘Me down - and I don’t even want a gram
‘Of yucky, nasty corncrush jam.’

Bird's Nest Soup

Rare Chinese foodstuff -
Swiftlets sleeping rough

The Kitchener Anthem

Arise o! Kitchen pot
My stomach calls to bay.
To serve my stomach right
With appetizing gaze I pray.
The labour of my market-thing
Shall never be invaded
With poisonous outing.
One kitchen bound with foodstuff.
I prepare to massacre.

Arise o! Cooking burner.
Fight thee against food villains.
My vessels should thy saliver nourish.
My body shall thy reception flourish
Always be there for me.
For my food lusts satisfied.

A Painting

It's raining outside
Trees structuring stories
Someone drenching inside the self
Night is fading

A little bird
feathers wet with raindrops
finding no place to perch on
is at my window

Out of the window
A street vendor struggling
to save her foodstuff
from the threatening rain

Close to her shop
a bare bodied boy
drenching himself
and playing with mouth organ

In the balcony
Two friends are capturing the milieu
with brushes and colours

Immigrants Wish

A rabbit’s foot, auspicious
an albatross for sailors
or China’s magic bamboo
all signify a windfall -
what immigrant’s wish

in trust of what is God’s will
a cross is worn by many
to show faith in a Savior -
who immigrants wish

Favors shown, sorry mishaps
for mortals lacking foodstuff -
why immigrants wish

a sanctuary, lodging -
where immigrants wish

what immigrants wish
