Premium Member After the Fall
He fell so early from the image to the grime
And lay there, flatly oozing helplessness.
Anger, and something left of love combined,
Plunged to urge him free,
Wiped its hands and set back the idol high,
Only slightly out of plumb.
The shattering was mine....

Premium Member A Spider is Not an Insect
This poet has most incorrectly checked
The little box which indicates "insect."
This poem, I therefore flatly reject.
I sharply reproach the writer.

A spider, never an insect, was.
I say this insistently because,
He should say "sorry." Until he does,
I remain a concerned spider....

Little Curly-Headed Girl
Hey, little curly-headed girl
Why are you out here alone?
The darkness is no place for someone like you.

Little curly-headed girl
Why don't you speak?
What is making you so blue?

"I am not blue nor afraid,"
She flatly states
With an emptiness in her tone.

"I am forgotten,"
"Pushed down, buried deep."
"You decided you were better off alone."

The Life I Lead
The life I lead would likely be
A life you would not choose.
In fact, if there could be a switch,
You flatly would refuse.

Yet I would say the same for yours,
No disrespect intended;
Though maybe I’d consider
Certain aspects recommended.

The way we choose to spend our days
Defines just who we are.
We may extend our comfort zones
Though rarely very far....

Premium Member Existential ditty of rhyming simplicity
Dividing line defies defined
Not who but where was I
Was I in eyebrows expressing midst reflexive twitching
Was I behind closed eyes, squeezing hand on polite command
Was it fully I present for first memory…if just for a moment, discontinuously
I strongly desire a marker, to wrap my mind around, to structure
But in truth so long I was in between…my existence flatly in doubt
Dead certain entering the void…no way to say when I came back out...

Not dwelling on the day we fear, We nurture them with tender care, Watching in awe how fast they grow Until it’s time to let them go. Parental bond flatly defies The least comforting compromise, Keeping too close, holding most dear, Not dwelling on the day we fear. And when it comes we aren’t quite set To let them spread their wings just yet, Negotiating bitter truce - Embrace them tight or let them loose?! May 2, 2021

Utter Nonsense
One cold day, I was burning up
The rain outside was dry
The sunshine, mooned each falling star
Out there, inside was I

Reading, when I'm fast asleep
I saw no movement stand
I reached without and outstretched arm
to flick the fly that land

Bouncing, being very still
I thought it lively, dying
When up it sprang, just flatly
All it's energy, spent trying

Salt I sprinkled, as it poured
Atop, the underneath, it's belly
Finally flopping, to and fro
Then landing in my jelly...
