Premium Member We Are Liars
My husband and I lie so often people fact check us
We are used to it and frankly do not care
Open encyclopedias bring us no fuss
We spout our fabricated truth into the air...

Premium Member My Laptop
My laptop has replaced my television,
my home telephone and stereo system.
It has also replaced my calculator
and my many volumes of encyclopedias.
No longer do I need a dictionary.
The Internet has made obsolete my local library.
I no longer have any need for postal mail.
I now send and receive only emails.
The only service that my laptop hasn't replaced
more or less,
is UPS and Federal Express....

Premium Member Library Love
Lingering among the stacks
Interval of serenity, a luxury to
Borrow a world, then bring it back
Riches of printed page, once few
Are carried throughout the community
Requiring only a card to belong
Young and old both given opportunity

Lending literacy to growing minds, strong
Out of many streets, they share the room
Vaulted ideas have a place to bloom
Encyclopedias of adventures to unpack!

Premium Member Just a Thought From One Who's Taught
Professors found a haven in academia
a safe port in the storm of big business' toxemia

as daring as interning for social media...

So now Professor's young charges want 'safe spaces'
far away from the slug-it-out world of rat races
Let me prove my point, get down to actual cases
to ensure I've covered my derriere and other places...

I am addicted
Addicted to word games
Playing others online
Who are also addicted
To word games

My mother loved
Playing Dabble
Her favorite word game
She had to beat the clock
And makes seven words
Out of thirty-two letters

Her legacy to me is
Keep your mind active
Learn something new every day
She was not an addict
But she did read encyclopedias for “fun”.

I remember how thrilled she was about new words
Which might explain me a bit....

Premium Member Tale of Dictionary Pup
dictionary pup wanted to know each and every word.
he read the encyclopedias, which some said was absurd.
he took a pile of magazines and novels to his bed.
falling asleep among books that were green, blue and red.

you have to cut this out, his mother said, quite stern.
but how else will I glean knowledge? How else will I learn?
she had no argument for that, so he kept doing what he did.
he is a college professor at Yale, this inquisitive pup kid....
