Evening Prayer
I am a tree today
to roots,
to heaven.

The mower passed the sickle
like a moon.
What was unnecessary – cut off.
The remains were burnt,
to be clean
as in a picture of Chagall.
Pray for the dead innocent
and for children.

Evening....

A fantasist
alive
 upon canvas
surreal
 yet..
so very real

his love-for her
not
  concealed
there..
floating
    for all
to see..
childlike
 innocent

his lady
in white
a wonder..
& delight

a tribute inspired by Chagall’s ‘Lady in White’...

Love,new love
               floats on air
         thermals of desire
fuel
passion's flight

       off the wall
       out of this world
drifting
together without
a care

                kissing

missing minutes
become hours
     one dream becomes
another...

INFLUENCE OF CHAGALL

Cradle garden faithfully, free her petals.
Pluck bouquet and playfully tend her, kiss her.
Praise her beauty soulfully - stem and fragrance.
                                                  ~ Whirligig love her.

New Love
I have learned
to dream again,
dance cloud dances,
wear a dress of sunset red,
thirteen veils of air
that swirl around me.

It is raining flowers-
why
does nobody notice?

I shake a few butterflies from my hair,
smile at the old Chagall,
and fly off to meet you.

I wrote this poem in German when I had just fallen in love with the man who is now my husband. Translated it into English 30 years later....

Touching 6 Years of Being Human
I last-touch
the tiny giggle
of the hand that carelessly lets go
a moment of a horizon-less lifetime.

And she lifts her head
encoppered curly hair
framing the face
that uncle Chagall will want to possess on canvas,
Raphael will woo with the charm of a Reborn man,
Renoir will gently daub in moving light.

I take away the giggle
and delicately arrange a small place
for it to nestle off to sleep
among the most gentle, manly words
I can release from my heart....
