ARTEFACTS
A working clock makes a house look lived-in, occupancy-wise;
A lit bulb makes occupants look unwilling to compromise.

I’m weakened by the hazy heat,
But locals bustle in the street,
And all around me lively talk.
The tarmac melting as I walk,
I see the artefacts of Rome -
And guess it’s pouring down at home.

Wasn't High Street so well decorated for the holidays.
So many lights and other artefacts, with Christmas tree so rife.
Everyone shop-windowing, hardly a friendly gaze.
Elated with so many presents was my wife.
Yet how we have forgotten our life of strife.

artefacts of ancient love
misty eyes fading light
half dark sky raining
clouds
illuminated arc in the
orphaned western sky
waterfalls of memories
thirsty
for a harmonious world
we are in the roaring beach
embraced staring into the
inner eye like
a twinned rainbow

Verse
Secrets every family have them
Secrets that are sacrate
Hidden away in a vault
Buried deep within the sand
Like artefacts out of sight, out of mind
Secrets we all have them
It's apart of who we are
Secrets are like a treasure chest
Cast out on a deserted land
Never to be conceal
Never to be revealed
As we walk upon this land
Secrets are nuclear weapons
You can say, there are your trump cards
Secrets, don't you just dislike them.

Flayed inside his shadow box.
A permanent collection.
Years lost under glass.
History anchors hate and trinket.
He crafted this cabinet.
Polished the locks.
The tours are all guided.
And he leads every step.
To the left: heart on shelf.
To the right: fist just in case.
His exhibitions never open.
His artefacts are never viewed.
A relic in love’s wreckage.
Sorry, forever sorry.
Read the sign: Stand behind the line.
Don’t touch the display.
