Summer is over; kids are back at school;
Everyone is thankful for the cool nights.
People are beginning to drain their pool,
Thankful, there are no more mosquito bites.
Each day is shorter than the day before,
Moving closer to Autumn's color change.
But the forest is still green at its core;
Even though the lack of songbirds seems strange.
Red tinges are spreading amongst the leaves;
Fall is now entering its start-up stage.
And people are unrolling their shirtsleeves,
Like they're getting ready to flip the page.
Little things keep September in my heart;
Such as the fact, Fall is about to start.
Listen to me, Darling.
Let a smile replace that frown.
I will lengthen all your shirtsleeves,
I will let your pant legs down.
You complain that you feel awkward
And you don't know what to do,
With arms that are all elbows
That are sprouting out from you.
I have something here to show you
In my winter garden room.
Have you ever seen such beauty
As this Amaryillis bloom?
It was nothing much to look at
Just a month or so ago,
Until I gave it light and water
And it started in to grow.
I could see it add the inches
Every day before my eyes
And it gave no indication
Of its wonderful surprise.
If I hadn't known the end result,
I might have thrown it out
In those days when it was only
A fast growing, lengthy sprout.
You are going through a growth spurt
That will only last a while.
The charming woman you're unveiling
Will bring back your lovely smile.
Just know that as you're changing and
Evolving hour by hour,
You are growing into beauty
Like my amaryllis flower.l
