COVID Survival
He came knocking at every door,
No one knew what he had in store.
Many were ready to fight tooth and nail,
But sadly there were others who did not prevail.
How cruel he was to those who did not take heed,
Who chose to ignore the warnings base on greed.
Many countries did everything that was right,
So from them he had to pack and take flight.
How brilliant were the plans they had in place,
Even as he was staring them straight in the face.
The people united and would not bow nonetall,
They stood their grounds and survived it all.
Every trap he laid! every disguise ,
People laughed him to scorn for they were wise.
And when news of his return spread far and wide,
They were armed for battle on every side.
Masks were in place and sanitization all round,
Resilience was strong anywhere people were found.
So hail to the masses who strongly resisted,
No matter how hard COVID persisted,
And today as he is put on trial,
We salute you all ,heroes of COVID survival.

The earth turned on its axis,
The sun rose for the day,
But the planes, the trains, the taxis?
They chose to stay away.
The roads became much calmer,
The streets were quieter still,
Because amidst this force of beauty,
The world was getting ill.
The flowers still grew their petals,
The trees, they danced away,
The sky was blue, the grass was green,
And we all rose to see the day.
But the days for us looked different,
Something wasn't quiet the same,
No long commutes or morning rush,
And a virus was to blame.
All the parents taught their children,
Kitchen tables turned to desks,
But play times were without their friends,
The rule was clear:no guests!
Because the most important thing here,
Isn't me, myself and I,
And all the people knew this,
And that's the reason why...

What is it with this obsessive compulsion
Destroying every dust ball’s conception
In folks’ unkempt homes I feel no revulsion
Yet that offers me little consolation
For cleaning my own home is an addiction
Often resulting in great agitation
Exploding as an internal combustion
This behavior’s like a viral infection
My disorder leads to immaculation
I’ve dispelled all hopes of emancipation
For much to my own “clean freak” consternation
I still live in over-sanitization.
Entry for Shani Fassbender’s “Tell Me a Secret” contest
A “true obsession” probably handed down by my mother
who was lightheartedly referred to as the “White Glove.”
Mr. Clean was her role model.
