Bereft of soft flesh,
That once throbbed within,
Tribute from heart
To departed soul.
Living together
For eighty years,
Snowflakes dissolve.
Sea silent,
Seagull speechless,
Seashells alone.
Roses and thorns,
Sand and beach,
Looks at palm.
Standing calm on salted sands beside
the tumult of tides,
Red remnants of care lie with hollow husks,
buffeted by breezes beneath darkened skies.
Blushed by sunset altar of love,
sea shell songs,
scent of Rosa rugosa,
stones smooth as lovers skin;
sweet love hearts oceanic sensual offerings.

Spring is imminent,
but the salt marshes
are not aware, for
the air is cold and drear.
Patchwork of tan and gray
stretches toward the sea,
cattails and reeds bend east
in a still chilly wind.
Bayberry and rosa rugosa,
blackened as if by fire,
huddle together, backdrop
for frost bitten sedges
decorated here and there
with shiny spills, silver pools
left by the last high tide,
reflecting the emptiness
of a white winter light.
And still the marshes sleep,
waiting for a length of days
warmed by a stronger sun
to stir them from their long nap,
for juices to flow into
stiff, arthritic stems,
for leaves to branch out,
filling the marshes again
with a hundred shades of green
and buds of latent flowers.
Once again the process begins,
The unending work of rebirth.

Lovely, rich dark purple lilacs bloom in early spring
Fragrant spring air decorated by vibrant purple gems
Bright yellow striped tulips emerge on Kelly green stems
Magenta petunias attract a hummingbird’s fluttery wings
Peony’s vibrant hot pink flowers opened saucer wide
Hydrangea bunches magnificently displayed in tanzanite blue
Lupines and wildflowers decorate the country side in bright hues
Summer rugosa roses climb along on beaches near ocean tides
Chrysanthemums in yellows, reds and oranges, festive fall flowers are here
Fields of sunflowers stand magnificently tall as birds feed from their seeds
Red and white poinsettias in decorative pots adorned with ribbons and beads
Beautiful amaryllis blooms displayed on window sills brings warm winter cheer

summer
sunny weather
pretty flowers in bloom
rose hips from rugosa roses
many hummingbirds out sipping nectar
lush green lawns, trees lavished with leaves
leaves start dropping, falling
autumn's too soon
summer
