Empty packages,
lots of paper,
refolded for another year.
Saved, again and again,
generation after generation.
Traditions,
slowly getting too old,
falling away, replaced by lesser quality,
but surely more in every case.

The tree, the needles are all lost.
Throw it out?
No, it will do one more time,
it will be fine.
Tiny ornaments,
handprints and casts...
tiny feet, captured in plaster molds.
They still make mom cry,
when no one is looking.
They have special and unique
memories, that get even stronger,
as they get older,
and the ones around them,
slowly move away,
or are missing,
or even gone.

Slowly everything is put away.
Another year is put to bed.

We look forward,
and some,
if not all,
pray.

Angel treetop a special place,
I have for you.
Not like ever before,
you will remain at the door.
All year, you will greet,
all those that come,
to meet

Unfold, get worn,
dirty, washed, refolded,
unravel, mend,
ignore, rediscover,
reshape, repair,
rethink, get comfortable.

Rooster In An Orange Tree

Round clutches of merriment,
And contemplative fumes,
Rattle the chiffonier of things past.
Off-white memories are shaken out,
Studied and delicately refolded for safe keeping.

In the distance, the hues of evening,
Drape gently across the castle walls,
And warm the clouds over the sea.
The breeze so close to show His face,
Something neither word nor man can capture.

To my starboard side, my golden glance,
My rose petals in a Grecian Urn,
My heart for her, given on the altar.
Ever closer our touch, ever stronger,
Our bond in this life, cast in off-white plaster.

Forgiven the herald of the Rock’s betrayal,
A rooster crows for awakening,
In the early evening, perched in an orange tree.
“Be awake in this life, and be grateful,
Or you may pass by those sweet fruits that grace golden toil.”
