Summer Succumb
Segue Cicadae,
Enwrap in sunray,
Warble a tuneful "Hooray!",
Solstice sing-song night/day,
Hydrangeas on display,
Honeysuckle blooms bouquet
Melons savor away,
Berries & cream entree,
Splashing a la Bay,
Reading enjoy, listen to Mozart play,
"Zimmer's" here! So our stars don't stray,
Our belief GPS is recalculating the way!
Madras instead of gray,
Dour somber becomes gay,
At a ballgame eye spy,
A growing white blur, wonder I why?
Then it hits me!
By dawns early light, See? Oh say!

Schools, parades and lots of trips,
Cruises, flights and races;
Tennis matches and events
In other crowded places:
All are being canceled or
Postponed for times awaiting.
No one knows how soon is safe
When one’s recalculating.
Expos, luncheons, weddings, shows,
Surgeries elective
Crossed off calendars because
Of cautioning directive.
Life appears to be on hold
As virus germs go flitting
And cancellations mount while fear
Shows not a chance of quitting.

AH, TO COMMENT
Ah, to comment on the soup
too hot, too cold, too new, too old,
too “Hallmarkian”.
To praise – or not - their efforts,
to offer support - if not advice,
correction, critique.
To encourage – or not
the meandering meaninglessness
of the short form.
To observe – GPS like -
offering corrections
in recalculating tone.
To view, through glasses
different than those
of pen.
To voice our conviction
that poetry is
what we say it is.
Ah, to taste the soup
to sip at leisure –
life’s spiced flavors.
To stop and smell
the roses - and the rot,
to shout “Vive la difference!”
To thank them for their words,
their poetry, their praise,
for being poets.

Whisper, 2012
V. Ortiz Vazquez
Bright as the day
His confidence
Walking tall for his batch bears no wrong doing
Predetermined sex
Downloaded expectations
“Boys don’t cry”
Sprung from love
Her sensitivity
Watching those around
Her mark reveals a list of don’t
Whishes of a boy tramples downloaded expectations
Recalculating
“Girls don’t do that”
Walking about
Unknown to one another
Distance companions with similar nature
One believable, the other one not
Society’s rules
Predetermine disposition
Learning behavior
Up for debate
Slowly he begins to make his move
Trust ensue no rejection
Without suspecting
She bare her mark
Not knowing what, how to feel
Act
Silence descends upon the body
Laughable his story, he thought “boys don’t cry”
Miserable her short life, she “asked for it”
Compose, controlled with confident
Satisfied with the cruel intentions
In conjunction with low, clear voice whisper
“Shhhhhh…”
