Why should we start to command our souls just as David once did

According to John Barnett, our souls are controlled by our sinful fleshly desires.
Left to their own devices they are double-minded and filled with doubt and dis-
couragement. Therefore, we need to follow David's excellent example, and let
him both teach and instruct us how to speak to and command our own souls.
In order for them they to become fully aligned with our born again natures and
the Holy Spirit. (A modified version of his lecture to his students)

BLESS the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me,
bless His holy name!
And forget not all of His
benefits:
Who forgives all your
iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your live from
destruction,
Who crowns you with
lovingkindness and tender
mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth
with good things,
So that your youth is renewed
like the eagle's.

The LORD exercises
righteousness
And justice for all who are
oppressed.
He made known His ways to
Moses.
He acts to the children of
Israel.

The LORD is merciful and
gracious,
Slow to anger, and abounding
in mercy.
He will not always strive with
us,
Nor will He keep His anger
forever:
He has not dealt with us
according to our sins,
nor punished us according to
our inequities.

For as the heavens are high
above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward
those who fear Him;
As far as the east is from the
west,
So far has He removed our
transgressions from us.
As a father pities his children,
So the LORD pities those who
fear Him.
He knows our frame;
He remembers that we are
dust.
Ps 103:1-14

HE who dwells in the secret
place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow
of the Almighty
I will say of the LORD,"He is my
refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him, I will trust.
Ps 91:1-2

My Modern psalm

When I am at my most weakest
You LORD God are at Your
Most strongest
Granting to me Your wondrous
Grace and merciful kindness to
me enabling me to carry on.

Unto to You my LORD and King
My heart shall rejoice; my spirit
Shall sing. You are both my
Savior and my King;
Without You I would return to the
dust of earth.

When I cry out to You in my pain and
anguish too, You are always around
To comfort and reassure me that You
will never leave me nor forsake me.
For lo, You are with me always even
unto the ending of the age.

O LORD God Almighty please teach me
How David commanded his own soul?
Fully knowing that someday I shall walk
upon streets of the purest gold.
For you have cast away all of my
sins and inequities into the deepest sea;
saving me!
