Don'T Switch Off the Lights

Don’t switch off the lights
Because I’m afraid of the boogieman
I said please don’t switch off the lights
I fear a dark monster with long tentacles
 With fiery big eyes
I see him in my dreams
A black mass disturbing my peace
He chokes my dreams into nightmares
Making my heart leap out of place
 Twisted images of lifeless forms
 Stretch out their skeletal arms
They grab me at my waist
And seal my lips with goo
I’m trapped in a place between his world
 And my world of serenity
Rigid I lie on a cold surface
Like a corpse I’m pale white
 They drink my blood
Like vampires in a thirst frenzy

 Who switched off the lights?
Who came into my world and made it theirs?
The blackness is all around me
And hollow eyes penetrate my being
I’m asphyxiated as his grim hands cover my nose
And as my eyes roll back
 I ask
 Is this the end?
 Is this how I die?
 And not out of fear
 I smile and giggle
 I will accept my fate
 I’m just a simple being
Trying to make the best of my journey
 Between birth and dead
So I accept him as he tiptoes around the corner
 Hideous and inconspicuous
 Eyes glowing through the darkness
 Fingers like tiny serpents
Hissing as they caress my body
 Into a lifeless state
