RESOLUTELY RESOLUTE

As the present year slides slowly into slumber
I shall strive, next year, to things somewhat less dumber
Than wearing my galoshes in the summer

I shall, in fact, walk barefoot on the beach
And leave my sandals so far out of reach
The seagulls I’ll impress with my loud screech

And when the bumbling bees accost the rose
I’ll spray them with the still unraveled hose
Protecting her for she’s the one I chose

Remembering the mills will surely close
I shall no longer wear “carbon based” clothes
And when arrested claim eleven toes

I shall take a vow of silence dawn to dusk
And clothe myself in eco-friendly husk
And hope the crows don’t land upon my tusk

I shall recycle all the cardboard left behind
By mobs who’d have us all think as one mind
For the man who owns the dog knows which is blind

And I shall write of joyous things, nothing off key
In the hope that happy thoughts will set me free
Unless the door is locked when I must pee
