A FRACTION PHRASED IN FALSETTO
In the time it takes for a woman to whisper goodbye
Between dry eyes and eyes that cry
For the time it takes that lady to bat her eye with lashes long
That’s the exact extent of time I spent as her song
In actuality I became her symphony
Each note made me float
Each beat bequeathed beauty
Her melody took the morning and made it mystic
The rhythm wrought a daisy as it dozes
And the lyrics were superfluous to the sultry syncopation of her swaying as the lady sang
Her voice voiced violins who seldom slumber
While she swore never to fall that hard again
That which I have done
So,
as it would seem,
I am not the only one
She recalled sweetly a lover once so sweet
And how,
between a rainbow and a miracle they came to meet
In a small café where sat two souls seeking sublimation
And still her voice ebbed forth with the wonder of a willowy willow while it wiggles in the wind
With a harmony she rescued from the internal and eternal part of never
With a lover debonair and oh so very clever
She painted a picture with chords and colors reminiscent of reverence and romance
While I was a predominant part of her dance
When I came to decide to reside inside her music
And for a fraction of forever I was there

Right where I belonged at that precise point which portended a portrait of perfection
And a singer oozing with the pain of past and possible rejection
While in the infinitesimal time it takes a lover to realize that loneliness lasts ever too long
That is the exact extent of time I was a part and the heart of her soulful song
