A Sinner's Heart

There is a sin inside my mind,
Where only I can see and hear,
Where my heart reflects my need,
Where my soul reminds it is stumbling,
Where my spirit delights and is always learning.

There is a sin that remembers the times,
I’ve lost my temper or lost my gentle…
Times when I’ve allowed the darkness to drive –
Out the wonder of Jesus’ kindness,
Times when I’ve let go of the promises that abide,
Inside where I know what it means to strive…
To be like the One who saved my soul and my life.

There is sin that I don’t want to acknowledge,
Sin of doubt, fear and destruction,
Sin of worry, anger, resentment,
Sin so loud it seeks to end my best gifts…

There is sin, but there is also the assurance –
With Him, there is a promise – eternally,
When I feel like giving in to the sin, allowing the dark to enter in,
I remember that He’s worthy of all my honor and praise –
He is worthy of love that finds a way – through the worst sin,
Into the light where I can feel Him silencing…
All the worst that is – all the sin that yearns to ruin my faith,
Erase my hope, break me in ways that can silence His grace.

There is sin, and I know it comes from the natural man –
Sin, that lingers inside where I long to cast it out,
Sin, that even the best I have to give – can’t seem to wipe away,
Sin, that haunts me when I pray,
Sin, that creates those shadows of shame,
Sin, that humiliates me when I say – love will find a way.

There is sin – yes, there is sin,
But there is One who holds the keys…
To my heart, my soul, my love and my hope,
He is the One who saved me from the world,
The One who saved me from the hurt,
The One who saved me from the depths of hell,
The One who saved me from, even myself.

There is sin that lingers in my heart,
But there is faith that lifts me up,
There is joy that abides in my heart,
There is peace that only He can cause,
There is love that only He can arouse.
There is One, and He is the only One –
Who can restore my soul so that, despite every sin,
Despite every dark night… there is a light,
There is a promise…
I can have the chance to always be with Him,
The love that comes boldly – to save the worst of sinners,
Those like me – who sin even when they’ve been given –
The greatest of gifts, the gift of His forgiveness!

For sinners like me – those who still believe,
Despite the mortification, the shame and disgrace –
Sin will never win because He came to make a way,
Out of the sin, into the peace, where we can believe –
His love is the only answer we need – His love
Is the way through the sin that bleeds its filth across my heart,
Seeking to spoil the faith that reminds me I am HIS!
Forever and always!
