Back Home, My Own
Some said, ”Stay 'way from her,
that girl never brings no good.”
Some said, ”She’s just a prude,
don’t know a good time like she should.”
Some said, ”She’s much too loose,
she’d gonna leave you with a disease.”
Some said, ”She’s an ice-queen,
won’t commit, nothin’ but a tease.”
I find myself intrigued,
this girl that can’t fit in,
those walking contradictions
always make me grin, and…
Don’t care what the people say,
I just want to get you lady back home, back home,
don’t care if they snitch or stare,
I just want to go and take you there.
Don’t care what the people say,
I just want to make you, woman, my own, my own,
you’ll have my last name one day,
live lives that they wouldn’t dare,
…let me go and take you there.
Some say, “You’ve lost your mind,
she’s only gonna break your heart.”
Some say, “Don’t hope for play,
she never lets men get that far.”
I say the games we play,
the assumptions that we all make,
don’t hold all of the truth,
often blind us to something great.
Her mysteries invite,
a true riddle she seems,
and I just need to lean
what those mysteries mean, and…

the eye-rolls and the sneers.

may zip when others zag,
I think you know yourself
that it ain’t all that bad.
