Last breath

I close my eyes,
Be still my heart,
I’m not ready to be apart,

Beating deep,
A saddened heart,
Nobody said it would be this hard,

Pain runs deep,
Flowing in these veins of mine,
Forever wouldn’t have been enough time,

Tears flow,
One at a time,
This much hurt should be a crime,

Now I stand alone,
The sun brings a new dawn,
A new day starts,
My heart stays torn,

I held your hand,
Your fingers imprinted to mine,
Kissed your lips,
The shine of your eyes declined,

We built an empire,
Just you and me,
Built it large for all to see,
Our time then ends,
I must set you free,

In my arms,
I held you close,
One last breath,
Then your chest no longer rose,

But that final breath,
I inhaled in,
A part of you now - deep within,

I’ve let you go,

No more pain,
Soon no sorrow,

We will be together again…
One day,
Our new tomorrow.
