In a sweet silence, I sit beside the elderly who have known time as an old friend

In a sweet silence, I sit beside the elderly who have known time as an old friend,
And I feel how their presence is like an open window to memories carefully wrapped,
Their words flow slowly, like a river winding through the stones of a life lived,
Their eyes wander between sky and earth, searching in worlds only they can see.
A gentle smile or a soft laugh transports us to a time so distant,
It seems to be just a dream, yet so alive in the stillness of this moment,
And even if I don't catch every word, it doesn’t matter, for within them lies a whole heart,
Fragments of soul, unforgettable losses, and joys that still light up their gaze.
Listening with love, I become a haven for stories seeking their place,
It is the most human thing to ask about their favorite song and see their eyes light up,
To learn the story behind a favorite meal, what love looked like in their eyes,
What fears haunted their dreams, what treasures they carefully kept, and what they wish to embrace again.
In a world that rushes, where noise is constant and attention fleeting,
They remind us to slow down, to breathe, and to truly be present,
No conversation feels more real, more human than this,
In which time stops and only our hearts speak.
And in those moments of shared silence, I feel how I become part of a tapestry,
A thread in the fabric of their lives, binding us through timeless stories and emotions,
In a world where what truly matters is just this encounter,
With the past that lives in the present, with the stories that ultimately make us human.
