Hell Mouth
The rain between us…
my words fall to pieces
angled beyond
the listless dawn
new frost cutting skin to ivory
blue vein delicate as coral
rib and sea
feed into the flesh of memory
back to earth
before the chaos took its seed
and woke the universe
into fire
the sky, unheeded
stretches into angry blue
and we are conscious enough
to feel human
to break our gods into ember
breath held like a storm
scattering shadows
upon the strangeness
of us
a cold
deep blood
thick as ocean
now, ensnared by the light
we move in haste
where the diffusion of space
is a dark, sweet
tumbling of youth
caught in the stillness
of streams
granite fed cooled
upon our lips weighed
in droplets bright ritual born
lion and angel
those shapes of clouds
bent around the sun
once tangled and motionless
wrought from desert waterless
trembling now in silence
like penny blacks
bursting to life
