Arrival of a Goddess
“You know how it is with an April day when the sun is out and the wind is still; you’re one month on in the middle of May.”
—Robert Frost, Two Tramps in Mud Time
I watch this April day as dawn arrives . . .
with grace she lays a gilded glaze
upon my greening lawn
spreading it out like sweet butter.
How beautifully night has yielded
to the magic of her gloss.
I run behind my house
to glimpse the goddess
as she spills a plenitude of honey
onto my blooming yellow daffodils,
and I behold my garden touched by gold.
