Something Deep

Indigo shades the western light,

Amber suffuses Shaman’s sight,
Mottled moans of a whispered soul,

Bellows churning Phaethon’s coals.
Embrace the night-birds warbled song,
In chanting verse that lasts not long,
Nor echoes past the dying sun,
Gifts given gone but not undone.

Incandescent sky serpents seek
Nothing but the depressed to eat,
Shaman retreats with folded hand,
Inspired by the sober land.
Not knowing that he’s long been owned,
Created just to come and go,
Each waxed lyric another bleat,
Reveals a bone that has no meat…
Even then some still think it deep.
