AN ACTING LIFE

AN ACTING LIFE
A young, shy boy enters stage left. The date, November ‘fifty-three. And, though you’d not believe it now, That shy young man was me. I hadn’t wanted to be there, I was convinced that I’d fall flat. I spoke my first line nervously. The audience laughed – and that was that! I was hooked in that moment of magic And knew I had to have more. I’ve played a hundred roles since then, Shakespeare, Wilde and Shaw. I’m afraid you won’t have heard of me; Few people know my name. My acting is only a hobby, But it’s theatre all the same. Of course I can’t go on for ever, I’m reaching the end of the page. And besides, there’s a limited number of parts For men of a certain age.
